  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC Release v7.0.0

I can't upgrade to 7.0.1. The camera stays on 7.0.0. The fans only spins for about 2 seconds, not the normal 15 or so. It then turns off, and it sounds like it is going through the full update when I turn it back on. But the camera info says 7.0.1

this has happened to me a few times working with different cameras (scarlet/epic/weapon). It's always been a user error on my end, and generally I'd wipe the cards and reinstall the update on the SSD ensuring its copied over correctly. One time it took me three attempts and I could have sworn the second time I had copied it over correctly but I believe I was still overlooking something if I remember correctly.

hope you figured it out.

Thanks. I should have tried a third time then ;-) I tried twice. Will try again tomorrow

Are there plans to release v6.4 for DSMC 1? I would love varispeed audio on the Epic...

Crap. Just updated firmware and lost my battery percentage icon for the WC gold mount. This tread says it is due to an an unapproved partner accessory, but the WC site says it is an approved accessory and they will have an upgrade in 4-8 weeks. https://www.woodencamera.com/cableless-gold-mount-weapon-epic-w-scarlet-w-raven-p/220800.htm. They did not show a post date, does anyone know if that upgrade is out and how much it will cost?

Incidentally, now that RED has their own gold mount module, will they be releasing a DSMC2 GOLD MOUNT I/O EXPANDER anytime soon?

We have a prototype that is being sent to our manufacturers now. We expect to have boards ready within the coming weeks. They will roll out slowly, but we will begin manufacturing in larger quantities after the initial release. Thank you for your patience while we resolve the issue.

Thanks! I wrote WC after I made that post, they sent a boiler plate statement about the issue and some additional info similar to yours. They also took my original order number and put me on an update list- so that is good. I've been loving that cable-less gold mount and really hope to have it back up to 100%..

I'm not sure if anyone else has run into this issue (occurred before upgrade and has still continued) but our RED Weapon Helium with firmware 7.0.1 has had some issues maintaining its ISO. On a job last night, the camera was set at 1600 ISO but would jump to 1280 or 1000 all on its own. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason for the settings change, but it happened more than a dozen times over the course of a 6 hour shoot.

Anyone else experiencing a similar glitch?

Hi Ryan, I noticed that you have an RTMotion Latitude. I had this weird glitch as well, but found out that the 1st AC was inadvertently turning Slider B on the hand controller, which was mapped to ISO. Unassigning Slider B fixed it. Maybe that might be your issue? We confirmed that was the issue by unplugging the CTRL cable for a bit and it stopped happening.

Still disappointed by v7FW as it is just too slow. Menu responses are still taking too long. Zooming in 1:1 is still taking too long with six seconds from the time you press the button to the zoomed in picture to emerge then another 8 seconds for the image and menu to return to the LCD when going back to the full sensor. This is on a Monstro so I don't know if other cameras are slower? Every focus check takes an extra quarter of a minute and that sucks when production is under the pump.

About 3 seconds for me on Epic-W.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I don't recall it ever feeling faster on any FW version... or any RED camera, for that matter.

Aaron,

Thats interesting that your Epic W is doing it in half the time as my Monstro with more powerful processors? Are you running a lot of modules? I have the 7" LCD, DSMC2 EVF and the Revolt DSMC2 Expander so I might pull some of it off and see if that speeds things up? If the three second mark is most people's experience then I may have an issue.

V-Lock IO Expander, 4.7" touch screen, and a Tilta cage.

So, I've posted a few times about this and seems like not too many people are bothered, but I'm really going nuts for not having the histogram show me the light levels on the gamma I'm shooting on.
Rather giving me the same Log3g10 histogram never mind the gamma I'm using, I'm exposing using the histogram on RED's using contrasty/more "final image" gammas for so many years now..I'm so used to it. It's extremely confusing for me to look at the histogram when it just shows me the Log3g10.
I might need to start using my Tvlogic waveform all the time, but prefer that RED just bring back the option to choose for which gamma I want the histogram to refer to.

Any chance anyone from RED care to comment on this please? Maybe you bring this option back on the next update?

Plus 1, would love to have the option for the histogram to display the applicable red gamma.

Couldn't agree more. Not sure why this can't be a toggle option.

Hi guys,

Just had a shoot with a external sound, after syncing with sound devices 633 via BNC (RED bnc sync cable), the camera timecode drifted really fast, after two hours we were almost 20min difference in timecode! I didn't have this issue before upgrading to 7.0.1, in fact, I had the camera synced every day for over a month at the start of the day, and it was still keeping right timecode by the end of the day.

So this might be something related to the new firmware, please share if anyone else experience this?

Where both recorder and camera on the same Timebase?
