  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC is not going to happen...

Indeed it did... And we Love it... ;)

Can't wait to show our first clips of "Rape of a Beauty" 3D looks on EPIC, and the frame Grabs prints at the Gallery event this Christmas in Milan...

Hopefully adding my little name to the list of those that make full use of the DSMC... ;)

And yeah, those that don't know my buddy Diego, please do take a moment to check his work out, He is sure rocking the Fashion World with EPIC... http://www.cavallaria.com/index.php?/work/fashion/2/

Can't wait to get my EPIC-X to start shooting stills and motion. Got loads of my own projects lined up for next year.

Roll on Stage 4...

:-)

I printed 16x24 from the first shots on a R1.

People are coming around. That's great to see. It's even more viable now with the form factor of the EPIC.

A great reminder of how versatile and professional the system is.

David.

dq and CAVALLARIA

This is why I want this camera. The ability to shoot both using the best technology out there at the flick of a switch. Please clear those backorders of Stages 2 & 3 soon! I am desperate for you to open Stage 4!

Best of both worlds with no compromises. You could even use the second HDRx stream for 5k no-motion-blur stills while shooting 5k video, both up to 60fps! RAW! Insane... There are no excuses, if it doesn't look good, it is the user.

With the right software you could use the fast shutter channel to enhance motion blur removal on the other, to give hdr fast shutter.

DSMC... Omniography.

The Epic looks super useful especially when you have to capture a particular nuance or expression from a live subject that is not a professional model. In such cases pulling the exact frame is crucial. [In my own case I’m thinking horse/equine sports photography, as an aside, and all those shots that were ruined by kids not quite making the right expression and so on.]

So in the medium format market/manufacturers have sort of drawn a line in the sand around 40 MP. Most Medium format manufacturers are probably going to phase out lower MP models as 35mm and compact camera based models are exceeding 20-25MPs. The new (SONY) NEX 7 is going to have 20MP plus?...And yet there are 80MP backs, but you need something more than off the shelf glass to make any use of that kind of sensor.

If RED TEAM (Jim et al) get to around 33 to 40 MP with some sort of 645 (ish) camera I wonder what that will do or spell for the rest of the digital Medium Format manufacturer’s?

For our technical applications high res is important and lower res can be used as sort of “touch in” camera. Having a 645 like camera/instrument (in the neighborhood 40MP) that could shoot extended burst let’s say at 30 fps and for 20 seconds to a minute even would be amazing and would certainly change the way card carrying studio and action photographers would shoot. Maybe the central portion of the sensor can shoot at a higher frame rate for extended periods?

I wonder theoretically what the price point would be on a DSMC with a bit more of an emphasis on the S bit, for a 40MP+ sensor based system? I would imagine that a lot of photographers would be prepared to pay handsomely as this greatly accelerates the ability to capture the exact moment or intended nuance or expression.

[Balloon Fiesta going on in New Mexico, lots of balloons going over my house right now, Balloon fiesta purported as the most photographed event on earth].

Cheers,

Eric

Killing your customers with a "bad-news-induced" stroke or heartattack is not a good business strategy, Jim!! :)

I'm starting to think Jim's version of a few days off is posting stuff on RedUser and just watching the reactions :) I suppose its a welcome distraction :)

The title of this thread scared the crap out of me. I am willing to bet that someone is going to skim this forum and seen that title and freak out lol

It already did.

Jim

Hi,
should not Leica S2 or other Still Cameras with Lager Sensor give You better Pictures? I just wonder why still Photographers are using RED for Photos if there are Better Choices?
