  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC EPIC / SCARLET Release build 5.1.48 and Beta 5.2.11

This is great. Now that we have Dragons back home it's test time! With three features this summer we're definitely going to be putting Dragon to good use.

Yes if possible this would be rad.
If i remember correctly its not possible with MX hardware, but i hope it will be possible with the new generation.
I would also love a magnified window of the center or focus-point and bringing the +1 and two screens into play, how about using one screen for magnified view while the other one stays normal?

+1

If toggleable magnify while recording is not possible, then the option to have magnified output from SDI or HDMI while keeping regular output in the other would be nice. I'm already sometimes using 1080p output to a 7" 720p display with 1:1 pixel mapping on the display for a "sort of" magnify mode.

Jarred:

Will it ever be possible to toggle to 1:1 magnification while recording?

I think what we really would benefit is an even better way of seeing if things are in focus. Maybe magnified is not only what is needed.

Some ideas that maybe would be possible to implement
- a small video with a selectable area in focus. So we see a small spot which is at 1:1.
- The small area could also be with a tiny bit of delay. For example a small crop could be saved to memory while recording. And then this is displayed on the screen.
- More advanced edge detection modes. It feels like we could have a more agressive Focus assist mode.

I'm mostly shooting for 2k, but if I would be shooting for 4k delivery I would be really concerned about getting focus so any improvements are more than welcome!

This is like the panasonic hvx200 had. I think it could be a good option as you say.

Thanks Jarred and team.
Now AF support on AF-S NIKKOR ED 17-35 2.8 D works great!

NOTE: Sadly...
(Iris) Support for AF-S NIKKOR ED 80-200 2.8 D doesn't work any longer with these new builds (Beta 5.2.11 and Release build 5.1.47)
Hope you guys can fix this in the next build.

Nick, what is the timecode output level on the ERX? I started low and increased the level until the cam caught it. They played very well together.

Hi Dabling,

Fantastic. I would like to know what voltage setting failed and worked and if this ERX, from Nomad or intrinsic to ERX. Previously I tried all three settings, with no joy. I did discuss this with Glen, at NAB, but no sense what the specific problem is, as the higher value Tc's (25, 29.97) should be less limey to work, from th ERX, than the lowest Tc, based on their Tc signal and jitter. I'll try the three voltage settings again, with the ERX and then from Nomad into Dragon, with the current Beta firmware.

Thank you very much

Fury

Can you currently move around the 1:1 magnification box (if so, how? I must have missed it). If not, please implement it!

The ability to move the focus box around has been around for a while. Just press and hold for a few seconds, and drag it to a new location.

Oh. You may have meant after you magnify. Don't think you can do that yet.

Also, you can press the Arrow:Down button on the DSMC Side Handle or REDMOTE (likely the Switchblade as well) to select the Red Targeting Box and move it around without the Touch Screen if necessary.

Noted by our firmware team and will be resolved : )

Wish we could move the 1:1 region around while in Magnify - very useful on Canon 5Ds !

Loving. Loving. Loving..... The new media readout in minutes per format. So incredibly useful.
