  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC Beta Build v6.2.3 - This is a good one.

Harumph. Closing in on 30 minutes of blinking green lights, spinning timecode, and absolutely no other visible signs of progress or distress. How long should I wait before pressing the red button down?

Keep waiting. All of those components get their updates slow, you got three of them.

Ugh. Now it's been 90 minutes since I started the upgrade. Still no visible signs of progress. I knew I should have disconnected the PRO IO and the side handle before attempting the upgrade.

Do a hard reset (hold the power button for 15-ish seconds), deattach your modules and side handle, reboot and make sure the firmware upgrade takes, power down, reattach your modules and side handle, reboot. Wait for modules and side handle to update.

Michael,
also my dragon was the same. I had to put the 6.0.40 and then move to 6.2.3, so it worked. I hope same for you ;)

That worked. It's a bit like a dog I used to have. He could fetch a tennis ball all day. But throw two, and he kept running between them, never picking up either one. I think my EPIC could decide whether to update the side handle or the PL mount and just kept running back and forth between them. PL mount first, then side handle, and done in a jiffy.

EPIC DRAGON:

I also couldn't go directly to 6.2.3 (Beta) ... I had to install 6.0.40 (Release) first ... then go to 6.2.3.

In both cases, I had issues getting the Switchblade to respond after the Brain firmware was uploaded.

Held the power button down to shut it down ... to force shutdown. Relieved that everything eventually worked.

That aside - I love that you guys are working around the clock to further this amazing ecosystem.

i also had to shutdown, it was stuck on the updating peripherals menu... upon restart it started updating them and worked , only took a couple minutes.... if the bar isnt moving after a couple minutes just restart the camera and it should work next time around

I've had issues while applying BS calibration maps in my Scarlet-X. After downgrading to FW5.2.42 everything seems to work fine, but at least with FW5.3.42 and FW6.0.x I've had following symptoms:

If I apply BS cal maps (from the SSD) while the project frame rate is below 8fps (i.e. 4fps, 2fps or 1fps), most of the times the 5"Touch screen gets partly stuck to the image before applying (while one or more vertical bands showing the actual sensor image) and the histogram is missing. When this happens (image banding and missing histogram), changing to playback mode and back to record mode resolves the issue. While this banding and missing histogram happens, recorded files do not show the banding (it only shows on the camera's 5" display).

In addition, applying a BS cal map does not show in the system status (at least with FW6.0.x). The system status shows only the BS calibration that was when the camera was started. Even only changing from user cal map to factory (or vise versa), the system status does not change correspondingly.

This is very annoying bug while one starts to doubt what calibration map is on.

Because of this issue, my Scarlet-X was sent to repair in september and was sent back to me control checked, verified (and with several warranty upgrades). However, with FW6.0.35 the issues persist. Therefore, it has to be a FW issue. So, now I've downgraded to FW5.2.42 and waiting new FW release to solve this issue.

I'm wondering if anybody else has this problem, and if FW6.0.40 or FW6.2.3 beta solved it?

Yes. Our updated iPad app (which at the time of this writing is still pending approval) uses this feature to show thumbnails in playback on the iPad as well as allow the user to transfer Presets, Looks, 3D LUTS, Overlays, etc between the camera and iPad.

Would this include an Epic-X with RedLink or HotLink?

It is one of those see-saw battles... The engineers knock a second off and they get all excited and they have a little dance party but then I go in and ask for a bunch of new stuff and that takes away half a second and then you guys speak up and ask for a bunch more stuff and it gets added and it just keeps netting zero..... until the Engineers lock the door, dig really deep and make huge breakthroughs like they did with this build.

I am not sure if we will ever get to 6 seconds.. that sounds impossible to me. And of course different cameras do different things so it is all relative. Every camera received a whole lot of seconds chopped off with this one, but out of all of them Raven actually showed the quickest boot time improvements with this build.

Which is incredible because we also added a shit-ton of new stuff in this build on top of the optimizations.

This stuff ins't easy. Today is one of those days where I just sit back in my chair, look up to the heavens and thank whoever is up there for giving RED the best fucking engineers on the planet.

Would there ever be a theoretical way to speed up boot times by only having it boot certain modes? Whereas other modes could take a delay in booting. So if for some reason HDRx took a few seconds to boot, have that only preboot when you turn on HDRx in the menus? There are a lot of options most user's don't use right off that bat.

Though I have no bloody idea how that factors into boot times!

Yes, that's meant to be BT1886. The HDR2084 and BT1886 modes go together. They're "matched" in that if you put the HDR2084 on a display accepting the SMPTE2084 standard and the BT1886 output to your typical SDR display, you get an image that is essentially the same, other than on the HDR the highlights just keep going up....

Graeme

Had a session today on this stuff.
It's really a brave new world.

Holy shit. I can finally flip my 5" touch image on epic dragon. Woohoo! I'm so happy that epic is still getting so much love in the new weapon world.

+1!

I just fried a BNC Cable attempting this over hdsdi pipe in a previous model on Epic Dragon (not sure how that is physically possible but it did!).

Looking forward to seeing mirror flip working on older monitors - so handy for our 3D gigs. Well done RED!
