We are not interested at all in consumer cameras at this point... maybe someday, but not now. Everything we release for the next few years will be professional, ground-breaking and interesting. We are not interested to do "what others are doing". Not in the least. If we can't change the future... we want no part of it. Jim

Does this mean that you want to skip the FF35mm movie mode convergence and go for Medium Format Movie Mode, or have FF35mm but with 2K or above Motion Resolution to Kill those HD DSLR Cams?:w00t:

I honestly don't think we are going to see a 2k camera from red at this point. Maybe a 6kstill/3k movie for the easy downconvert in camera but not 2k.

My guess is: their not going for high resolutions like canons professional models. They want to unite motion picture and still picture while keeping it affordable for the little people thus democratizing the two markets (video and foto).

This is great! Hope I can afford it when it comes out. Hopefully they'll offer it with a Canon or Nikon lens mount, depending on the preference of the buyer.

What's a DSMC?

Just if you forgot?:)

We believe, and are developing for late 2009, a replacement for DSLRs. Currently, we call it a DSMC (Digital Still & Motion Camera).

While (insert code name) is not a replacement for Epic or Scarlet, it is strategically targeted at the DSLR space. As Nikon and Canon release their 720P and 1080P, respectively, DSLRs with video capture... RED has a more advanced view of the future. We look forward to rapidly pushing the "big guys" along in feature sets and capabilities.

RED firmly believes in higher resolution, higher S/N, higher DNR, higher frame rates, smaller bodies, more system flexibility, and many more options as we move forward in camera development.

The strength of RED is in our sensor development program, REDCODE, and having no legacy platforms to deal with. That left us free to explore, develop and prepare to deliver a new platform. DSMC.

We think all our customers already know what the future will bring. They are just afraid to wish for it for fear of disappointment. Fear not. Sleep tight. RED is awake.

Your point?

Jim

This might mean DSMC and Scarlet are the same. Who knows if there won't be a 35mm sensor size there inside?

Who knows... maybe a 617 full motion sensor? And for $1,000!

Jim,

I'm afraid your post is not towards mine since we post pratically at the same time. Please correct me if I am wrong.

:) OK, here is.

Well, since there will be a new DSLR full format this november, we all hope you can surprise all of us. As usual.

You are having way too much fun tonight...

In any case - I just wanted to apologize if we went little to crazy over at scarletuser - we meant no harm...

Peace...

Peter :)

Does this mean that the code name has changed, no more camera, or that the DSMC camera changed?:turned:

I think you were just kidding, right?

I was kidding about you forgetting what's a DSMC.

And here I was just about ready to sell my motorcycle this fall, looking really hard at the 5DMll to replace my antiquated 10D....

Reflecting back to an old Oakley sales meeting quote... Looks like the Jolly Roger is flying once again...

Interesting to in its definition:
Historically, the flag was flown to frighten pirates' victims into surrendering without a fight, since it conveyed the message that the attackers were outlaws who would not consider themselves bound by the usual rules of engagement and might, therefore, slaughter those they defeated. (Since captured pirates were usually hanged, they didn't have much to gain by asking quarter if defeated.) The same message was sometimes conveyed by a red flag,

Hmmm "Red flag" imagine that !

Cheers

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a four/thirds mount, since that's an open standard. Nothing to reverse engineer either.

What exactly is a four/thirds mount?

It's a standard developed by Kodak and Olympus for DSLR technology but several other companies participate in maintaining and developing the technology which consists of lenses and sensors. It's not open but it is a standard which promotes interchanging of lenses and camera bodies designed with the standard. So you can mix and match four/thirds gear as you wish.

Does it work with Canon and Nikon glass?
