  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon....

Patience is a virtue guys. It's something we'll all need a lot more of, because I think it is clear that RED is rolling this out very carefully, which I think is absolutely the right move. The people who are receiving cameras "get it". They have proven to RED they know how to grt the most from the cameras and will give it a fair shake. Chris and Mark are two of the more talented DPs who frequent this forum. We need to give them some time to play with the camera so what they post here is accurate and informative.

and by the way, I'm as anxious as anybody to get my hands on some Dragon footage.

Everyone sit tight!
Mark is about to greet us with some cool stuff. :emote_happyhappy:

Ok...

Lets see what this baby can do.

Will start a new thread in 48 hours.

Cya..

WOWWO ROCK'N'ROLLA ...
MARK please :
let us see what can push Dragon in low light , I'm curious even under light to 3200K :)

ok...

Sneaky bit for you all.

6k via RCX is playing sweet out of my laptop at 1/4 res !!

The 6k images look so fricken smooth... silky and clean.

The difference between 5k and 6k is huge ! ( A good huge) My 25mm looks like a 21mm !! And no Vignetting. (can't say that for my 18mm, but I hardly use that anyway).

We are doing our hard core exposure testing tomorrow and a bunch of night testing.

Today is work flow testing.... and so far so good. :)

You mean compared to 5K on MX Epic, or compared to the "new" Dragon 5K?

Thank you Mark !

it might be early to ask but;

1-is it really 16+ stops?
2- any noticable color science difference?

I'm not a scientist and I don't have specialized equipment to respond accurately to your questions.
But straight up (and I haven't finished or even started my testing as yet, , but 2000iso looks like 800-1000iso from the MX.
The other good thing is that there is highlight information of at least another stop ! I'm really happy about that.
So if the MX was 13.5 stops, I can already see another 2.5 without even really trying as yet.

What is really cool is, I thought I wouldn't give a crap about 6k.. As 5k seems more than enough resolution.. But after shooting a few shots @6k i quite quickly fell in love with the extra smoothness of 6k.. So so creamy and smooth almost grain less. Like looking at a huge photograph shot on 645 25asa ectachrome when you pause frame.

That's it for the night. Hitting the hay. Big day tomorrow.

Hey Mark, What are the new frame rates at each resolution? Good luck on your testing, so many of us are looking forward to your assessment.

Awesome that you got the Dragon Mark! If you have time for some mx vs dragon tungsten greenscreen with low light it would be very interesting to analyze the channels ;)

hey

hey

cant wait to hear more Toia!

I had an idea for a test if you (or another tester) is willing to give it a go...

Grab a dynamic range chart (the more range the better) and shoot it without HDRX on both MX and Dragon, and then shoot it with HDRX on both MX and Dragon... ideally in 6k, 5k, and 4k, maybe more if you have time...

Thought that might be an interesting one, in addition to all the real world testing I am sure is to come...

Thanks for your time, creativity and effort Mark and for putting up with the months of stored energy and questions of that feisty breed known as REDusers.

You should set out a virtual can/hat for donations for each "special request"... but seriously, I appreciate your generous service to the community.
