Hey guys,

For much of my professional work Sony has been king in my workflow for run and gun, live steaming, and fast turnover projects. I have gotten sick and bored of how sterile Sony feels, obviously I am not ditching my gear because it moves fast and makes money. However, I wanted to buy a piece of gear that inspired me to create, something I want to pick up, master, and experiment with. So I snagged a 6k - this thing just feels excellent and it has been a joy to start learning and exploring exposing for raw, the nuance in accessories like olpfs or mounts, ect. So I am not always sure how welcomed a post like this is considering I am outing myself as a RED newbie but there is only so much content on this sensor and system considering DSMC2 content is focused around the higher end 8k system. Since I got this thing the way I have been able to push colors and the charming but imperfect nature of the sensor has me giddy and relight the passion I had before turning my passion into a job sort of smothered that fire. So this is a first forum entry as a sort of diary entry but also wanting to ask passionate 6K/general RED owners the current state or most interesting resources I should be aware of. Apparently new color science has given this computer a second life, it has a second life of usability because even my 4080 shudders on the 6k footage so I cant imagine what it was like 5 years ago, and the price of storing these files. Also can some one clarify the name of this camera, the dsmc2 5k s35(6k with firm ware) is this the epic dragon, weapon dragon, or something else I cant find a solid resource that explains the common names for the dragon sensor cameras.

First, congratulations. Dragon is a fantastic sensor even in modern times.

RED along the way had some interesting naming conventions for the DSMC2 generation of bodies, which ended with a "unified" lineup. I'd say it's likely safe to call your camera a RED DSMC2 Dragon 6K S35. That tells everybody what they would need to know really.

IPP2 and the color science and workflow involved with it has made working with all RED cameras a lot simpler and you're getting better color and image processing of the REDCODE RAW material.

Hi @Redbull...
If all goes well I will receive my first RED camera in a few days...🕯️🕯️🕯️
I'll keep you posted ;-)

PS : On this forum we use our Real Name, not an alias... 😇😇😇

Have fun...
