i can't believe i am the first one to say this but, "nice skin tones"! lol!




but going back to the tech nerdness, i think soon redcine will say what olpf your on in meta data is the plan...also black cals/bals should be done after ALL firmware upgrades or OLPF changes and for the new OLPF you need to be running only specific firmwares in camera (the most recent one or two, can't remember). So check all of the above out!

and lastly thanks for posting the r3d files! really neat to have the new OLPF, plus the new glass, with great glamour like content! this should make for some good testing in all seriousness

You need the latest REDCINE-X that supports the new OLPF color science. The R3Ds also won't load into Resolve or Speedgrade until they implement the SDK. Shouldn't be long, they both seem really on top of it with these kind of updates.

Nice grades! I'm also looking for input on the green screen shot. Haven't done much of this type of work so not really sure if it's technically lit right. Used the clear chair to add to difficulty.

I'm still learning both the Summicron-C's and the new sensor so will be doing mucho testing over the next couple weeks. Also will be testing the Angenieux 16-42 and 30-80mm for 6K coverage.

Thanks. Ideally, the green-screen itself would be flatter and more evenly lit. There's also some green spill in the shadows underneath the model and green in the fabric she's holding, which makes separating them from the background more difficult. That's just what I could see having a quick look at the shot in Premiere Pro. I'm assuming the image would still be workable with some additional tweaks in post, but others should be able to tell you for sure what's what.

I was looking at the difficult example of the nude woman on the thungsten bulb and was looking at the details of the diamants.

Without denoise the color saturation of the brillances seams too harsh. Is it due to a to hard debayering process?

They don't look like real diamonds... My guess is they are fakes and that accounts for the higher amount of colored brillance.

RU is a tech forum and in a perfect world Josh would have thought it, but not posted it. I have deleted dozens of draft posts after re-reading them for spelling/grammar, then realizing it just wasn't the right venue. That said, ease up Rob - considering the coarseness of the internet in general I think "boobies" is hardly a trip down the sewer. In my world at least, using that term is far more acceptable in mixed company than dozens of others one might hear in a frat house or locker room.

There has been so much posted about RED skin tones I can see why Josh chose the shots he did. Yes, in a perfect world a bikini might have been a more appropriate choice, but tasteful nudes have been a staple of fine art for centuries. Just my 2 cents.

You obviously have not met my friend the Model. She is extremely body confident and can exchange adult level humor as good as any man. She would be insulted to have a man ride in on his white steed, sword in hand, to save her honor and chastity from grown up words like "boobies". She would probably tell him to "F off - I can take care of my own business".

"Protecting" any class of people makes them second class citizens. I use the same vocabulary and humor whether in front of a woman or a person of a different ethnicity. To me there is no such thing as mixed company. That is a divisive concept.

Would love to hear your input on the OP and maybe a sample grade

IMO, the artifacts in the costume jewelry without de-noising is a peek into the balancing act any DeBayering algorithm has to manage. I'd be curious to see an example like this at various compression levels and decodes. Would love to compare a 1/4 res version, to a full res premium, to ADD processing of the same image.

I also believe that specular highlights are the "last frontier" for any image created using a Color Filter Array like the Bayer pattern. I would further postulate that, based on what little we know so far, that the ADD processing would be of particularly great value any time image elements have edges near the pitch (or exactly double) of the sensor photo-sites or low pass filtration.

Digital imaging physics are like most physical systems in that they have what I refer to as resonance points - think about a woofer in a cabinet of internal volume X that plays back 30Hz or 40Hz sweetly but at 35Hz (example resonant frequency) it shakes and rattles. The DSC "wringer" chart is particularly good at finding failure points in Bayer decodes. I would guess that Graeme uses them, and other tools, to dial in his algorithms. Moreover, I would posit that the OLPF characteristics have a major role in these interdependent equations. I also believe that part of the ongoing optimization process is to fine tune how the algorithm sorts real detail from aliasing.

On a philosophical level I am right there with you. I used the term "mixed company" as a conceptual shortcut and don't dispute your core desire to get past such things.

Intersting point you made #19!

The strange thing is that the over saturated colors are happening in the orange-red-magenta spectrum. Knowing that the ballance had to be made from 5600k to 3200k some difficult highlights/highcontrast could have broken the color resolution and brought up saturation (?). I don't have a clue, but I'm speculating on what I see... I wonder what Graeme would have to say.

I don't think this is due to anysort of CA of the optics nor due to colored diamonds.

I would suspect you're right. It's just one of those tricky situations though where it doesn't matter what color the diamonds are, if they are hitting individual color wells the debayer is going to assume that it's fine chroma detail and debayer accordingly. Will be interesting to see how ADD handles this.

Rob, I would not use a term like "low class", it betrays your superiority complex. Implying there are different "classes" that people belong to and the one you are in is not "low"/

Rather I would say those that use terms like, "low class" or, "spoilt little s**t" (see what i did there ), show themselves to be lacking in class. A very different concept I am sure you would agree.
