  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

And I'm sick for being called a whiner on a supposedly professional forum for expressing a legitimate concern about decisions that affect my business.

I am not happy as well, I have 10x128 GB Mags and 4x256 GB. What about doing a extra module for the old mags for the new weapon?

Hi Jarred,

Thanks for the great gesture of dropping to EPIX X upgrade price back to USD9500.

I want to know if I take theEPIC X to Dragon upgrade and pay for the upgrade price and for the time being do not send the camera for upgrade.
and after NAB I again take the upgrade to Weapn for the same camera. Is it possible to get the upgrade from EPIC X TO DRAGON and then to weapon
upgrade at one go as then I do not have to send the camera twice for upgrade where we generally loose around 30 days .

I guess many (maybe including RED) would want this, as logistics time/money spent is probably the least desirable for all... :)

Whoa, I never said that, you got the wrong idea!

I know RED don't like the idea of 3rd party media, for reasons we all know - although I still think Weapon should have an eSATA (or, better, Thunderbolt) port for tethered shooting, direct to a RAID.

But what I meant was a 3rd party *adapter* - a simple passive physical/electrical adapter, a 'dumb' side module, if you will - to allow **RED** media, genuine RED 1.8" REDmags, to be plugged into a Weapon. RED don't propose to make such a lump of hardware; a 3rd party well might, since it's simple passive mechanics - a bit like we have 3rd party lens mounts. One of those guys will make a 3rd party full-size REDmag adapter. That's all I'm saying.

Actually I really liked the name Dragon and I felt it worked well in the context of RED but it was a really good name either way.
The pictures of lizards were also immensely popular.

What will be the "baby" Weapon? It was Red One -> Red One MX -> Epic X and Scarlet X -> Epic Dragon and Scarlet Dragon and now? Weapon Dragon and ??? :-)

Luca, I missed this...thanks for bringing it up! Amazing, truly amazing! I have box loads of all sorts of computer/camera media/ram chips that's no longer usable. No one else has ever offered me a discount like this before.

It has been an interesting 48 hours. Arri feature their new mini working on a drone. Red announce a product called weapon and security services in Paris get spooked by numerous unauthorised drones over the city.

Unguarded chat in public such as, "my drone is fitted with a weapon" may evoke a police response.

Hmm. I can't stomach $12k for a temporary Dragon upgrade, but Weapon looks interesting.
I wonder if I'm better off buying a new Scarlet Dragon, selling my Epic-X, and then upgrading to Weapon when available...
Of course the re-sale value of my Epic-X probably just plummeted...

Re old media

So is it accepted that the old rear SSD module will not work with the new system? Will any of the old modules work +1, pro I/o etc?

I think it is fair enough for RED to insist on the mini mags for some new lighter and more technically capable (higher frame rate or better compression) version of our dragon. Surely the way to please everyone is if the old SSD rear module still worked everyone gets to keep the specs that have at the moment?.
