  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon upgrades

Red Warrior On Mars

Red Warrior On Mars

Heh heh :)

The Red Witch, I like it! ;)

Warlock I'm less keen on although I have to say I would have even prefered Red Warrior over Red Weapon.
Red Weapon is one of the worst names I could think of in that context.

Maybe the Red Sorcerer or Red Magus or maybe Red River or Red Fire or all kinds of things...
...but not Red Weapon. :(

Freya

I like Red Warrior.

Def a new a revolt xl module. I have a feeling not much of existing gear is going to work... its not an epic anymore... its a weapon. Im guessing outside of your lens mount not much will work... I would venture to guess there is a new lens mount as well that will probably make you want to ditch your old one.

Hmm, The last couple of weeks have been quite a bummer as our whole dragon package with pretty much everything to it got stolen... Now if the insurance company just come trough and do their part right... this could possibly be my turn of luck, as I have to buy everything new again. One can only hope. They left me with a few XL´s and a mount Lol.

Super stoked about the sensor size stuff. Medium format would be a dream. In the old school street racing crowd, the saying goes, "There's no replacement for displacement". I think it applies here. There's something about the FOV you get out of what are commonly thought of as portrait lenses that you just can't speedboost your way into. Can't wait. I'm mostly just hoping this one comes in somewhere south of $12K or I will have to get a little creative with my funding. That said, the people who say getting in early is worth it are right. I went from Scarlet to Epic and paid it off in 7 months when my conservative plan allowed me 36. I took the same approach to Dragon and paid her off in 4 months. Bring on Weapon.

I think I'll name her Emerald.

Brian we don't know yet.

I thought Red would cut a larger Dragon Sensor from the same platter cause Sensor R&D is expensive.

I was certain it would BE FF35 but it's looking like 65 due to trends and the subtle hints. We could be totally wrong.

Panavision & Hawk have some killer glass for 65.

Arri went 65 and I will put money on Red jumping on board.

I have to ask (and I'm definitely not trying to fight with the guy who provides my work with awesome music + sound design) - what was the reason you bought and sold so many RED bodies? I'd think you would want to get mileage out of your cameras and take advantage of the upgrade program!

Thanks!

Honestly, it actually has to do with stuff like the music. We don't do video stuff all the time so it's hard to justify big purchases in that department. We try to sync up productions and buy the cameras for 6-12 months. Used market is great so we sell when we are done and it essentially becomes an insane rental.

We are sticking with the current Dragon and will definitely take advantage of the upgrade this time.

If the trade in program is similar to the original R1 to Epic X i'd be pretty stoked. Outside of the R1 there are a lot of members who have owned or taken part in each stage.

Either way I'm sure what RED releases will be pretty amazing. HFR would be awesome but the photographer side of me would love to see some long exposure settings for time-lapse work over higher frame rates.

@Scott C: Finally somebody who also sees the (most probably unintentional) Final Fantasy 7 reference

Guys, what makes everybody think it's going to be FF35 or bigger? I don't see any hint regarding a biger sensor, am I missing something? As far as I know there's hardly any usable glass for medium format (cinema) available at this time, that would be a risky move for RED to go that route already. Not?

My guesses:
- New body based on current but optimized Dragon 6K sensor. New electronics/ASICs. Epic And Scarlet version.
- Same sensor size as current Dragon (as the lens mounts stay the same).
- Higher framerates, that's why it only works with the faster minimags
- New SSD minimag module
- New cooling system
- New power option, REDVOLT XL (#thinisin)
- More RAM for buffering even higher framerates (burstmode)?
- Better Lowlight (hinted by Jarreds late night LA drive-by-shooting)
- Wireless touchscreen (and more) controls (also hinted by Jarreds car configuration with the touchscreen that far from the camera)
- Integrated microphones for scratch audio
- Propper XLR

Too bad I'll be missing the fun but glad I'll be able to rent a Weapon sooner or later

Anytime we have a new camera it's always been bigger sensor with more K's

8K TV are around not for purchase but they have prototypes. There's also been 8K camera prototypes.

Everything going 4k this year for consumers Red will double it and stay 2-3 years ahead of the gang.

those are speakers... so I don't know what it is?
