  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon upgrades

This is truly a blow to the heart. In an attempt to make lemonade out of a lemon...Is there any reason why we couldn't download the mini mags to the red mags? This would be a very save Backup.

If you guys make a thunderbolt RED Mag reader we could perform high speed downloads to RED Mag SSD in the field and send that up the river to transcode.

So please make a thunderbolt RED Mag SSD Reader Please.

Good idea.

I have 4 256g cards that I spent 10k on. I would love to not waste the reliability of these $2500 drives. Maybe someone out there can make an aftermarket Thunderbolt RED Mag reader?

Epics, scarletts, and R1s all take this type of media. I wish they made smaller sizes of minimag.

Red Fire, Red Spark, Red Flame, Red Lightning, Red Thunder, Red Volcano, Red River, Red Lava, Red Core, Red Atom, Red Mirage, Red Spirit, Red Shadow, Red Wraith, Red Spectre, Red Ghost....

Well I could go on and on but I don't want to be a downer on this.
I made my point so I will shuffle away into the distance now. :)

I don't know why you would want smaller?

The ultimate would be for RED to make "WRITE ONCE, READ MANY" inexpensive mini-mags (like a CD or Film). If you get a feature, you order 100 10min WRITE ONCE SSD. You shoot, and send it to the edit drive, then Archive all your footage by putting the SSDs in a zip lock freezer bag on your shelf in your closet. NO LTO, NO worries of drive failures, No powercords!!!! Think of all that GTech and Gliff cash that will go to RED.

Heh heh :)

The Red Witch, I like it! ;)

Warlock I'm less keen on although I have to say I would have even prefered Red Warrior over Red Weapon.
Red Weapon is one of the worst names I could think of in that context.

Maybe the Red Sorcerer or Red Magus or maybe Red River or Red Fire or all kinds of things...
...but not Red Weapon. :(

Sometimes I'm guilty of being too literal but having a Switchblade and Bomb, which are specific types of weapons, attach to something called Weapon is a little weird.

I dig the skull logo, though. From a design standpoint, it kicks the ass of most every other camera related gear's logo I'm aware of. The production/post industry has some fairly pedestrian (or just plain awful) logos on the whole.

One of my favorite logos: The Mill

id be happy if they just went back to the mini XLR that we had on the R1, full sized xlr are a pain in the form factor.

Don't agree here. Every sound bag/pro camera in the world has xlrs. Why do something that needs an adapter?

We we all dreamed that the CF card in the R1 would be this solution. Then the SSD came out, now the minimag. I like to rotate the media in smaller chunks, I use 64gb mags, so in the event of failure, I loose 64gb of data and maybe not a whole day on one failed, FULL mag, for larger productions that an afford the larger media and the subsequent copy times, great. I just like the rotating more mags. It's a philosophy more than anything else.

I still have all my cables. I actually think that if red had stuck withit then more pro audio gear would have followed suit, the mini xlrs are just as pro as the big brother ones, but fit the form factor of epic better and are nicer than mini jacks, which also need an adaptor.

Look ok at how big those modules need to be with 2xlrs. I'd take four track mini jacks of the r1 over two XLR any day of the week. Line level in on the brain would be nice as well.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, JIM JANNARD!
