  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon upgrades

As i'm already hooked for my upgrade to Dragon before NAB.. will the exchangable OLPF Filters work on the new Weapon Body?

thanks for taking the time Jarred!! Its expremely appreciated!!

So, I think I have boiled my questions down to one: if one purchases a Scarlet Dragon outright, from the RED store, before NAB, do they get the same "deal" (credit, pricing, place in line) as an upgraded Scarlet? I think I know the answer but definitely don't want to assume anything!

Jarred, maybe throw me a bone here? :-)

Don't let the haters or complainers get you down Jarred. This is awesome news on many levels. Excited to see the new body! After having hauled the Epic solo up into the Himalaya in October, here's hoping its a little lighter ;)

I'm assuming it will be inline with other upgrade prices. Probably 6-10k range.

Depends what you are upgrading from and to. Obviously assuming a Carbon Weapon is in the same ballpark price as a Carbon Dragon you are going to be paying alot more than $6k-$10k to go from a Scarlet Dragon to a Carbon Weapon.

Before anyone gets too excited this is not a " we are giving you full value of what you paid for your last camera to upgrade " deals :)

I wonder if Dragon owners can keep their Epic Dragon brain, and earn a credit/discount towards a brand new Weapon? Sounds like Dragons could make convenient B-Cams to Weapons...

I'm a bit bemused by some of the responses here.

I bought a dragon in November, had this been any other company, I would be gutted that I hadn't waited a few months for the new model, no sales rep would have stalled a purchase or given me warning.

I bought into the red line not just because of all the amazing aspects of the camera but because it's a company that allows and encourages you to grow your kit with them.

This pathway that only exists with this company is a privilege, of course timing isn't always going to work out or fit in with your finances. But in such a competitive market to be offered this opportunity time and again is not rare but unique.

Anyway glad to be a new member of the club.

Yes. Credit and Pricing is based on you owning a Dragon from any time period before NAB. The amount of credit depends on what type of dragon you have.

The place in line depends on when you put your deposit down for the weapon upgrade, and what type of dragon you have ( since Carbon Weapons will be shipping first, Carbon Dragon owners and others upgrading to Carbon will be first )

Thx.

This is a huge "heads up".
The carbon fiber bodies will be shipping first, does that mean that the Aluminum bodies are more like Q4/ end of year?
It's also safe to say that Dragon produces amazing images and will do so well in to the future.

Cool. This is all actually pretty orderly!! But I figured it will all make sense in the end.

Now I am going to sleep.

I love so much the look of the NON-Carbon... But this time I might just go for a Carbon Weapon... :)

The idea of an Epic Dragon becoming a 'b camera' in the near future makes me a little sad...

I think I'll take this opportunity to go carbon. Thanks Jarred!

Jarred,

First of all thanks for the 50+ day warning to all red owners! That is totally rad for you to do. The Red 2014 books last year were really epic but don't you think giving away new weapon hats or shirts would be better advertisement? ;-)

True, but they will also be a great way to continue to use 1.8" mags...

It wouldn't suprise me if some shoots see Weapons shooting on Minimags...and Dragons and Dragon Scarlets alongside them on 1.8" media...especially with so many 1.8" mags out there that may be dropping into used market, at even lower prices ($750 for 256?).
