Dragon Update

I don't mean to ask stupid questions here or complain at all. I'm more than happy waiting since I have to drop a good amount on a new edit suite to handle dragon 5k for Scarlet. So I ordered the Scarlet to Scarlet Dragon on Aprill 11th, as soon as I could after the store was open. I've always been sure that Epics come first. I was wondering if it's all Epics before Scarlet? Meaning that if someone ordered a new Epic yesterday and pre-ordered the upgrade today, would that Epic then be executed before my Scarlet? Again, not complaining or implying fairness issues here at all, I just want to figure out exactly where I stand in this. Thanks.

Michael, not a dumb question at all. It is all relative to a certain degree. By the time we kick off EPIC-X upgrades, we expect to have much larger batches of sensors to play with. So the delta of time between those customers being notified and SCARLET-X DRAGON upgrades beginning, it shouldn't be significant. Trust me, we want to get through all the pre-orders as quickly as we can.

Thanks for the update, Jarred! And Hooray for HDRX! I'm a big fan. I use it a lot for blur processing when pulling stills.

just one question… LASER PROJECTOR? ;)

Thank you RED Team for the HDRX and for the hard work to make things better and better!
I look forward to be able to order. (Epic X Upgrade here)

I would like to be able to order and get the invoice this year (TAX) -- even the delivery might be later, is that possible?

Thanks for the news....I am a little confused though.....I traded my scarlet in for epic and signed up for the dragon upgrade the day I received my epic.....am I in cat 3 or 5? I guess I am in 5? If so, the scarlet dragon comes first? I am pretty sure that I was told that going the scarlet-epic-dragon route would get me there sooner....

Pretty sure that you actually have to have the equipment in your hand to claim a tax deduction........

We invoice during order processing, ie - as it preps for shipment. Also, warranty starts on invoice date. So, sorry, no can do on this : )

Once you trade in your SCARLET for an EPIC M-X, you are considered an EPIC-X M-X owner. Therefore, you are priority 2.

Hi Brent,

So, which flavour of Dragons have been "trickling out," please? Also, A bit confused on invoice/warranty. When an order is placed, it is processed forthwith, as my BS rep tells me-great rep, BTW. If it takes 6 months to actually receive the camera and, say the warranty is nominally 1 year, there is only a 6 month warranty, "in hand?"

Thank you very much

Fury

So we need RED-Gift-Cards then ;o) Which will be independent from the processing. Just a thought. ;o) Thanks for the fast answer, Brent.

(I guess there is an option to freeze some money for next year from this years budget -- tax based, if I recall it correctly. I'm fairly new to the US tax system.)

Many thanks for the update. You and your team are doing great work.

I really appreciate the communication. :)

8k Laser? ;)

Thanks for the update Jarred. I'm glad everything finally coming together and that we are going to get the best product possible rather then getting something not fully realized.

Really excited to see dragoncolor, wish i lived closer so that i could stop in, but super happy with all the feedback and data that our eyes and hear, Phi, l been feeding us about the dragon so keep him in the loop. :-)

Nice to see the ball rolling on Dragon! Just curious what the window of time is like to upgrade our Epics to Dragon?

that was the first thing i asked bob, jarred said realistically after the first of the year. i would expect feb if you have a semi decent place in line.

Thanks Domenic. My question was more about how long the upgrade program is going to stay active.

8k Laser? ;)

The interesting thing is that it technically could be, based on info stated back when RED was still talking about it. The projector was to be capable of SIMULTANEOUS full-res 4K stereo, meaning it's throwing around 8K worth of pixels at a time. Now imagine if instead of running 4K 3D, we run 8K 2D by offsetting the two rasters from one another by half a pixel size both horizontally and vertically.

And we should probably take this to one of the laser projector threads because it doesn't belong here...

The Red laser projector was based on an lcos modulator, not a direct laser raster.
The laser was used as the light source only. There are no 8k lcos devices now.
Do you think that the design has changed ? It's possible, as the first theater laser projector in the field has obtained a waiver from the rules prohibiting direct laser rasters shot at the screen.
The direct raster would make ultra high contrast ratios possible. Lcos, not so much, As seen at the NAB demo with it's milky blacks.
