  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon Update

That's all awesome news... Sounds like I'll still have plenty of time to milk some return on the investment on my 512 cards before eventually switching over...

Peter I agree 100% with ya! Loving my Carbon Dragon. I waxed and waned over pulling the trigger on it. But as soon as it arrived I never regretted it for a second.

Hi Jarred,

Thanks for the update

Carbon Dragons or Dragon Upgrades????

Harcharan

Carbons take priority and the orders keep coming in for them so the majority are Carbons.. but there are upgrades happening at the same time when we can fit them in.

Thanks Jarred,
for the information.
Do you know if there will be other Dragons Carbon in shipping before Christmas?

Yes indeed... We have a bit of a lineup right now with them but any Carbon orders that have been already made and any new orders in the next week or so should all get out before Christmas.

OHHH YESSSSSSS MAN :lol::lol:

Thanks

Will you be bringing out a rear mini SSD module so that one camera could use current media in the side and minis in the back ( although not at the same time) it would aid the transition.

Super........eagerly waiting for the upgade mail............

All those details to come later, but just as an example, with the current full size REDMAG cards if you record 6K @ 72fps your minimum REDCODE setting is 15:1. With the new Mini-Mags, that compression number goes down to 12:1.
It seems the new mini mags writing speed is 25% faster. Any rough numbers for "the beast" 1TB?

1TB will be the perfect addition to the new dragon camera, redrocket-x, multi gpu r3d processing (upcoming)...

This was the best year for RED customers!!!

I got the impression that the limiting factor is the camera, not the cards.

That's good to know, thanks for the update. Glad to hear the oven is getting hotter.

Thanks Peter... you are correct. The Dragon works just fine with the current SSD's, the mini mags just are smaller, bigger, and much faster. So not only can you offload off the cards faster, but you can record in small compression ratios.

Happy days :)

When are these new mini SSDs coming out, roughly speaking?

Nope... the cards. And the mini-mag readers are now Sata 6G as well to aid in the speed.

With that said, what will the increase of speed do for the camera? :o)

I knew that was coming :) Frame rates are a limitation of the sensor, compression ratio is a limitation of the cards. So no, cant get faster frame rates with faster media :)

According to my calculator 6K FF at 72 fps at 12:1 should be only 167 MB/s. Don't standard Red Mags max out at 225 MB/s? What am I missing here?

Sata 6 offers bandwidth up to 550MB/s so there's plenty of headroom for data. Will the mini cards be able to come close to those speeds? Or maybe it's limited to preserve data integrity.

Thanks for the fast answer. I was asking just out of curiosity, I'm happy with the Epic Frame-rates, but of course: more options are always welcome. ;o)

I thought perhaps something completely new, as the RED-Team is always good for some nice surprises!

P.S.: I did not mentioned frame rates at all ;o)
