Dragon Update

Thanks for the update. Now the Lens test would be Fun to help with Even if i had to Fly to LA! :)

We have been doing lens coverage test on the Dragon while we are waiting.. and lens coverage is surprisingly good so far.. Hopefully I can grab Brook Evin and Phil one of these days soon with a van full of glass so they can put together some sort of master Dragon-Lens-matrix. The specs and assumptions of coverage don't always match real life, so nothing is better than getting the actual lenses and putting them on the camera and taking a look.

It'd be great to run a lens survey at Camtec (where I keep my Epic by the way) since they have one of the largest collections of vintage and new glass out there... I just did an extensive test of all of their inventory, creating profiles and 5K frame pulls for each set so this falls right in line with that...

To rattle off a few from their inventory from the top of my head...

Spherical:
Zeiss: Standard Speeds, SuperSpeeds MkIII, Ultra Primes, Master Primes, Compact Primes
Cooke: Series II, III, S4 and S5
Kowa: Cine Prominar
K35
MovieCam
RedProPrimes
Leica: Summilux-C

Zooms:
Angeniuex: All of the Optimos, Both Rouge, HR 25-250, 17-102
Cooke, all of their various zooms
Fuji: Premiere 18-85, Alura 18-80, Alura 45-250, Cabrio 19-90
Hawk: 17-35, 150-450
Zeiss VP 1-3

Anamorphics:
Hawk: C Series, V Series, V-Lite
Kowa
Todd AO
Cineovision
Arriscopes

Beside just tested where issues with particular focal lengths enter into the equation for 6K, it'd be nice to get an accurate chart of their image circles across the lens sets for future reference.

I'm in no rush at all... Im still getting amazing images out of my MX chip.
Not one client has asked for a 4k master yet. 2k or HD is enough for now (in there eyes) So who am I to argue.
How ever I'm starting to get asked for lots of stills from our shoots. Which is a nice side earner.
A clean 2000asa would be nice, thats about all I need at the moment.

When ever it's done is fine with me. Don't send it out till its perfect.

I couldn't agree more, Jarred. I think I know someone who can try Nikonos lenses in case Brook and Evin are too busy with other glass... :)

Actually, what would be useful is to have a matrix which would indicate which glass out-resolves the Dragon on the entire frame and at what stops. 6k is not to be sneezed at.

Sounds good or to quote Abraham Lincoln “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”

It is probably about time for an update.
Dragon is coming along well.. Graeme is working his magic and getting some incredible new color science buttoned up for when we are ready. REDCINE-X with Dragon support is ready. The Dragon camera firmware is complete. The Sensors and ASICs are performing like champs, its all down to the bottom end noise that was found in the power supplies, which have been redesigned and we should see those come in from manufacturing in a couple weeks.

The slice of production line is back from NAB and we are stocking up on all the mechanicals, sensors and ASICs so we can hit the ground running to do the upgrades when everything comes together.

I know everyone is eager and waiting.. thank you for your patience.

Looking foreward to this.

You really had me sold, when the HDRx feature was left intact.
Despite all the extra promise of the motion mount.

A sweet pckage would've been RocketX, Motion mount and Dragon. :)

Anyhow.
I'll be saving...

hahahaha

Thank you for the update! Looks like things are coming along. I'm in no hurry with the Dragon, I just fear it's going to arrive at the same time as the Meizler and I won't be able to buy both at the same time...

Which makes me ask the following question, could we please get an update regarding the Meizler ?

Regards,
Damien

Good choices! Not even for waiting but also for Brook Evin and Phil :)

I believe you are talking about the in-camera power supply? So if you just found out about that, it seems to pay off to get it done before getting it out.

Damn now where I do get the funds?

Mr. Land if you need two more months, that's fine I have zero doubt it's done for the right reasons and any grumblings will be gone in an instant. I am firmly with Mr. Collister ASC on this.
