DRAGON update money sent. EPIC Dragon 2029 "Lilau" is born. Low Light OLPF selected

I've finally got everything ready and sent my money to Red for the upgrade. I also took advantage of the Rocket X offer. Decided for the Low Light OLPF. I am a "natural light", minimal light lover and face many natural light and low light shooting scenarios. Will try to post my findings here of the whole Workflow and Image quality. Will also try to do a sequel of this video I did with the EPIC X: https://vimeo.com/38020250

Any questions about the Dragon do feel free to post. I expect, with everything done, (sending and receiving camera) I will be testing the camera in 2 or 3 weeks time.

I am using a Macbook Pro Retina (2012) to edit. Lets also see how it works with Rocket X and Sonnet enclosure.

Congrats Sergio!

I sent my Epic to Red yesterday. I went with the new OLPF as I shoot mainly outdoors with a lot of available light.

Great to hear Anthony! We should compare notes! Try some dailight vs night situations in certain settings.

So what is it with the two options on OLPF's? i was never asked by my rep which i would prefer---is that an option (sounds like it) and what are the benefits of each? is there a 1/3 loss of light by choosing the new filter or is it more or less? AND, what does the new filter do BETTER than the old? I have yet to find a side by side list of the pros - cons. But this is something that red likely should reveal to us rather than a user yes?

This might be of benefit:

Congratulations on the Dragon acquisitions.

Sweet. Glad to see someone making use of the old choice. Considering the same. Subscribed!

Congrats Sergio.
Look foreward to see your stuff strut.

Thanks Gunleik! Really excited about it and can't wait to test it in both stills and moving pictures.

I honestly absolutely love my MX Epic. I'm sure this won't disappoint.

Johnny Friday, this was a new development which is not recommended by RED, a stop gap measure until the swappable OLPF option is available. There are a few users that require to shoot in many low light situations and absolutely need the low light capabilities of the old OLPF, now rebranded "Low Light OLPF" . This OLPF does let in more light, but with it some artefacts some users don't like or find unacceptable. The NEW OLPF, or the better Highlights, artefacts free one, is not as good in low light. As you can see, I opted for artefacts and Low light.

"Old OLPF" or you can also call it Original or V1 OLPF. Strange that Old allways fell "not as good as" but usually is better for some! Like "Old bottom fan"...

Sergio,

did you ask about turn-around time - because I've been trying to order the "old" olpf upgrade for a month, and finally I was told yesterday, that although its possible to order, they are out of parts and cannot give an ETA for when they will
have them. Turn around for the new OLPF is 3-4 weeks.

For what I know both The Knick and The Last Ship look fantastic even with the known flare artifacts. Both projects shot with old olpf I think.

I would like to share a couple frames from Dragon, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.

What is the best way to upload photos to Reduser?

That's strange. I asked my rep to get me the old and he said that I did not had a choice so I got by force the new.

I think we should be given the chance to buy the old. To be perfectly clear I can't wait for a plain coated glass only.

I'm like you, I like to film with natural light and reflectors only if I can.
