Dragon returned from filming and when I went to check it out I discovered such defect. After a brief time the camera was turned off itself. Never seen such. What could be the problem????? This may somehow be affected by incorrect settings of ventelation for example? Anyone else had something similar??? Tomorrow is the dragon should be used. Very bad if it will happen again! Please tell me who had similar failures.

This sounds like your power saving mode settings.

Check your "auto shutdown" option.

For use w/ batteries and keeping low hours, auto shutdown is helpful.
If you have a hot set, I doubt most want to accidentally leave the camera on for days at a time.

Did it turn off while recording while on AC power?

AC power I will check too. I'm not worked up the camera on the ground and it probably is. I was confused with the setting of Ventilatoren, t all the time yellow and temperature 40/41 in manual mode. Unfortunately now I can not show and tell. Only in the morning before shooting. Thanks for the advice ! I will definitely look .

You may be best do a black shade calibration also.

40/41 seems pretty cold, whats the ambient temperature there?
i.e. is it super cold where you are shooting?

Temperature from -8 to 2 degrees celsia, I think, was shot on the street and indoors with the same settings. I come to the end and the beginning of the day to check the camera. This is a great project, is the operator and assistant operator, they set up the camera to work that way. I was very surprised when I saw. I always choose adaptive or adaptive quiet recording. 48/65 this is my working temperature and then make the black shading depending on the external temperature and shutterspeed. Always ensure that T/E were green. Here are the settings used on this project, 25 fps 1/50 shutterspeed iso 640 5:1 compression 4k FF 40/41 temperature T always yellow. Blackshading 25 fps 1/48 shuttersped. Maybe I don't understand in the settings and the big guys are doing it correctly?? I don't think so...

Fan Control. Mode - Manual. Maximum Record Speed 25%. Maximum Standby Speed 50%.

Being that Adaptive Fan Mode is generally a better option I'd recommend that. I don't know exactly what caused the shutdown, but if for some reason the camera overheated due to somebody not monitoring it carefully that's certainly a possibility. Also, I would investigate the power source and connection a bit. Sometimes it's as simple as cleaning where things connect.

Thanks for the tip Phill !!! I will tell this to the operator and DP ! I always read your posts, most of my knowledge about the correct shooting and setup the camera ONLY YOUR MERIT ! This morning I checked everything mentioned above, the power saving mode is turned off. Then check again the connections are all too normal. Then talked with DP and found. They made the camera settings once at the beginning of the project. And black shade calibration once at the beginning of the project. And now I think so when there is a change of location ( street or apartment ) instead of doing black shade calibration, to compensate for the temperature difference in manual fan mode. All other settings are untouched. Correct me somebody if I'm wrong... I use in my work the black shade calibration as often as the white balance. Ie. If I change the frame rate and shutter speed I always do black shade calibration.(use 4 presets) If there is a difference in temperature I do black shade calibration or cold hot calibration. And always use only Adaptive fan mode. Which method is correct ??? Phil if you could comment these ways - I'd be happy ! because I'm confused ...

When I checked the camera and saw the temperature, not in the range I immediately turned the camera in the Adaptive fan mode. Then the temperature began to grow and perhaps at this moment, the Dragon began to overheat and shut off. Today after a morning conversation with DP They have not changed anything and continued to work as he worked. Recently I was called to the site to find out if everything was OK and now the camera works for 6 hours and no problems. Dragon is not disabled. But where is the truth ??? I do not want that camera was incorrectly used and this would reflect on the sensor.

My best suggestion is to submit a log to Red for them to further investigate.

However, what I would personally do is set the Fan Mode to Adaptive and run a fresh pass of Black Shading Calibration for the production's shutter speeds.

Phil thank you so much ! I wasn't sure what correctly require them to change the settings. But now !!! The problem of Russian cinema is that only a very small amount of people actually understand what they are doing. And if they know it will never tell you how to do correctly. Because it is "sacred knowledge" ))) There is a very big problem with the correct information on RED, even if you ask in the office. All have instructions, but the actual working conditions are always presented with its surprises. And in this situation no one will address. It seems to me you can't even imagine how many famous TV shows, music videos and feature films shot on Red in Russia ))) And when I read that the first blockbuster filmed on Dragon somewhere there .. it's funny. And it's also funny that a very small number of people can correctly work with Red. I always want to learn and get the newest information and if not REDUSER.NET I don't know what it would be. Thank You Phil. Thank you REDUSERS. Thank you RED TEAM. For knowledge and support. Respect !!
