  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon + Lomo Anamorphic Square Fronts - Initial Tests

Aw shucks, I just figured I'm a grumpy aging asshole ;-) Always happy to help anyone if I can. The fact of the matter is the industry just isn't that big, and we should all help each other out when we can. I've been doing this for going on 25 years now, and I may have finally learned a few things, at least about old russian lenses.

Dave Mullen is still wrong about focal length and depth of field though ;-)

I wish everyone a very happy and profitable new year. Let's all do good work.

Cheers,

Nick

Status update: Bernie at Super 16 was able to polish the rear element of my 35mm Lomo Anamorphic and give it a collimation. And the lens is looking great now!

Looks a lot better. Very nice!

Is Bernie a mad hatter? I spoke to him over the phone one time regarding a Lomo 20-120 and he seemed very mad scientistish... (though that could have totally been a false image my mind conjured up).

... Also what kind of dog is that? A corgi? It certainly looks like it does not want the wine.

He and his wife are characters, that's for sure. The wife swears like a sailor, and Bernie will talk to you about lenses for as long as you want. He is definitely a bit of a mad scientist up there in Upstate NY. They're quite an enjoyable couple to deal with over the phone, though, and their rates are reasonable.

Ha, corgi yeah. Check out my test shots to see more hounds!

Bernie also looks a hell of a lot like Dr. Jacoby from Twin Peaks:

Pppfffftttt, I already watched the test shots twice -- it came up on my vimeo feed automagically and I think it came up on Facebook too (Jarred or Graeme liked it or something). I actually love the audio in that video; it's hilarious... ultra sad, but hilarious (the one with the dude talking about how much he hates living in LA on a ~2.5min voice mail)... where is that from?

Wicked that the 35 is now tip-top.

Looks great man! Especially the night interiors!

Thanks man. I know you want to get the LL OLPF, but I've had good low light results with the STH.

I'm learning how to deal w/ the STH in low light situations. I keep a couple of black shade profiles at different operating temps in the camera's memory. I wasn't doing that before so if the temp was going above/below I wouldn't adjust it. That was part of the prob. ETTR is tough on small budget things though.

Just a voicemail I got from someone I know who was having a bad night in LA.

More tests!
