Does current beta dragon footage open in FCPx or just premiere? Cant get any footage in Fcpx currently running newest beta. have a rental today, should i roll back to release build for ease of post work?

Dragon footage works really nicely in fcp-x, just download the update from red.com install and party. :)

Got it working. thanks guys

Domenic does Dragon footage act up in CC ? I hate to switch to FCPX just for Dragon?

sweet that is great news!!!

Forgive me if this is a silly question but I'm working with a very top-of-market post facility and they are having difficulty transcoding Dragon footage to a suitable quality and within a reasonable timeline. Is there any way to transcode this footage in anything even close to real-time without a Red-Rocket X? How are all of you transcoding your footage into deliverables or footage you can work with in compositing applications without taking days to do the transcode? Can someone walk me through the workflow so I can understand what currently is the best approach if you don't have a RRX?

Thanks for any feedback!

Regards,

Todd

Redcine X or Davinci + Titan = real time or near real time

We use a Nvidia graphics card that cost a couple of hundred dollars on a old MP that gives us about 15 fps I think that is more than enough. And why do you need really fast tanscodes? Or do you really need transcoding at all normally you do not. If you want transcoding, editing in masive amount of layers or so, then to me it's better to just transcode proxies at low debayer, then edit then take the XML and then only transfer the selects with highest settings, possibly with ADD even for certain shots..... and if it's short format like a commercial or such I see no reason not to run with ADD for all the selects even if it takes over night or such. To me it's very much worth the extra while. It was not long ago we all had to wait for the lab to do their overnight processing that also where super expansive. I find it a bit odd that not only should this digital stuff cost nothing it should also be handled in a snap. To me a little bit of wait is no worry especially if the result improve.

And no, I think you are not at a top of market post facility... My guess is that you are at a large decadent old school post facility that try to ride on their ill made investments that they did 5 - 10 years ago. If you see any kind of tape decks around well then this is a fact... :)

Yeah,

i wonder how a place like Lightiron might handle this one. :)

There are tons of archive material still kept on Betacam SP, Digibeta, DVCAM, MiniDV, DVCPRO, HDV, DVCPROHD, HDCAM etc.

I know a couple of houses keeping the decks for projects which depend on that valuable archive material, since majority of humanity's motion imaging content is captured and stored on some type of tape media, and a significant portion of it is yet to be digitalised. :)

Thanks Björn.

We are working on an array system and the fast transcodes would really be helpful to not have to wait two to three days to test the footage we are shooting for our camera and system tests. The expectation that transcoding should move a little quicker comes from the fact that RED has actually released a product to provide faster than real-time transcoding, it just seems that this product is impossible to get - even for top post-facilities like ours. This is really what I'm confused about as the best VFX houses in the world, in my opinion, shouldn't be on a waiting list to get the product, they should be the first ones because these are the places that service the most number of shows and are most likely creating the work that will get the most eyeballs on it to promote RED technologies.

Yes I believe so. There's a big update to the entire CC product suite next wednesday that should hopefully bring Dragon support to AE as well.

I don't believe this is accurate. How are you using Premiere currently with Dragon footage?

The dragon footage coming off my camera drops into Premiere without any issues. I simply just created a 6K preset time, dragged, and dropped.

AE on the other hand does NOT recognized Dragon footage at all.
