I have the lasted version of PP cloud. I believe PP doesn't accept Dragon footage? I get a "Unsupported or damaged file" message. I shot with Dragon Colour and Redgamma 4

Is there a way to import into premier without having to transcode the footage out of RCX?

I asked this in a previous post but if i want DEB applied to my footage do i have to export out of RCX anyway?

Computers aren't my thing......

Thanks

Owen

Make sure the Adobe Premiere Pro CC is the "2014" version. (I had to completely uninstall, and re install)

It will read Dragon .r3d's directly, no transcoding needed from RCX to edit.

Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 works fine with Dragon. I use it a whole lot.

D.E.B. however hasn't been implemented into the Adobe Red Importer/Plugin because it's fairly brand spanking new and it takes time for both Red to implement it in the SDK and for 3rd party developers to implement it themselves.

If you want footage processed with D.E.B. for the time being you need to export out of REDcine-X Pro and relink to your timeline.

Phil, work flow question... I'm exporting my selects from RCX as Prores 4x4 then bringing them into Premier Pro CC2014, cutting and exporting again at the same resolution and Prores quality. Is there a a substantial improvement in image quality if one stays in R3D and then does the final output at Prores 4x4 from Premier? Or would the end result be the same?
Thanks!

This is more or less a common workflow used for today's broadcast. Especially for those working with proxy recorders, from transcodes, or just with cameras that record ProRes all together. And color work is done on those ProRes files as well in many situations. It's used in cinema workflows as well, but if you have a better quality source you can indeed squeak out more information. DCPs are 12 bits of precision.

The key bit here is you can squeeze out more quality when starting from a higher bit depth and .R3D source for finish.

ProRes 4444 is a lossy codec, but does feature 4:4:4 chroma subsampling and can contain up to 12 bits of info. So you don't want to re-encod it a bazillion times. 1 and 2 generation encodes though happy regularly, but most shouldn't be making generations after that in my mind. Apple has developed ProRes XQ because of this to squeak out more quality via a higher bit rate encode and support for a few other features.

Highest quality method is to work with .R3Ds and create 16 bit image sequences and relink or go straight to export if possible.

Next would be performing your color work on .R3Ds and encoding your 12 bit ProRes 4444 and utilizing them in your project then exporting to your desired format. Meaning you are manipulating the image in a bigger space and baking a 12 bit somewhat lossy codec pie.

Thanks, Phil. Your last sentence basically describes my current work flow. As for Prores XQ, is that available as an export option when using RCX?

PS - in your "shot on Dragon" thread, I posted a question to you regarding getting the full Vimeo frame embedded as opposed to simply a link. I can't seem to make this work...

Not yet. It's brand spanking new right out of the womb, but it's going to come down the pipe soon I imagine. I think this is more of an Apple related thing at the moment.

Thanks guys. I updated cc so not sure why.. you mentioned you had to uninstall, that's sounds scary, I have a year long project cut in PP and with my very limited computer knowledge I'm scared to even think of uninstalling

You can have both cc and cc2014 on your system at the same time. At least it's working on my mac.
