From the Manual, which can always be found at red.com via the download section:

Allow Open Gate
Open Gate allows the camera to preview images at a refresh rate that is twice the project time base. For example, if the project time base is 23.98 or 24fps, enabling Open Gate causes the LCD or EVF to have a refresh rate of 48Hz (50Hz)

Note: You cannot use Open Gate when
- Varispeed is enabled
- Speed Ramp mode is enabled
- Genlock is enabled
- The shutter angle is 180° or greater.
Note: When you disable Open Gate Mode, the image on the EVF may be disrupted for up to three seconds.

You can create a custom overlay by cloning the overlay you use and remove the item "Open Gate Mode (OGT)"

1. Go to: Menu > Settings >Display > Monitor Control > Overlay
2. Select the overlay you are using (probably "Standard (RED)") and press "Clone..."
3. Type a new name in the field on top
4. Press on the box "OGT"
5. Select "Remove" to remove the item
6. Select "Create" to create the new overlay
7. Go to the "Monitor" tab
8. Select your monitor
9. Change the Overlay to your new overlay
