Has anyone compared Epic Dragon transcoded into ProresHQ (or higher) using DEB with Weapon Prores out of the camera? I'm curious to know how close the shadow detail between the cameras are in this scenario.

I am very satisfied with what DEB achieves with Epic Dragon shadows currently and suspect that I would also want to use DEB with Weapon R3Ds / transcodes as it has rarely been detrimental in my experience. Just trying to figure out if I would actually use in camera Prores or need the half stop gain in shadow detail on Weapon. I should qualify I am not looking to debate the merits of direct to Prores workflows here, just concerned about observations in image quality.

I think the in camera prores should be cleaner, because it is before r3d compression. I remember people using external recorders for 1080 out of scarlet because they could get a wider field of view and better noise in dark scenes

It remains to be answered what the debayer quality of internal prores would be, out of the sdi it is 1/2 I think, just like epic, so if it is a full internal then it should be even better

Jake, isn't full debayer when recording / live preview?

I think it's 1/2 just when playing it back, no?

It's different and a full quality stream from what I understand.

Nice thread, indeed...thanks Corey for bringing this up!

Phil, what's your opinion about the downscaling quality for the 6K originated 4K Prores files?

Thanks!!
