I am exporting a DPX of some tungsten footage to Smoke, and it works just fine, but when I try to export a daylight version of the same exact clip, it still opens as tungsten (which is the setting in the metadata) in Smoke. Am I missing something? Is this a bug? Could it be a Smoke issue?

did you render the DPX?

once you render to DPX its not "just in the metadata"

This isnt an issue with Smoke, it just imports what you give it. What is your step by step process?

What I'm saying is that Redcine seems to be exporting the DPX sequence using the WB from the metadata, regardless of what I changed it to prior to exporting. Let me know if you need more info than the following:

-Clip: 4k 2:1
-Project: HD 1080
-Scaling: fit to height
-(set in and out)
-Color temp: changed from 3200 to 5600
-Output: DPX saved into a folder created in the finder

It also just seemed like a possibility that Smoke was somehow linking to the same files. Thanks for the quick response!

did you look at the DPX in another app and see if the wb is correct?

DPX does not contain metadata in the sense that a raw file does. The DPX is either 5600 or 3200 or what ever you rendered. I would look at the step in RedCine for the problem.

Smoke is simply loading the file that you tell it to load.

I understand that the DPX sequence is baked, and contains no metadata. I'm referring to the metadata from the R3D, which Redcine seems to be defaulting to on the export.

I haven't looked at the DPX in any other programs. What program/s would you suggest?

Redalert exports my color settings to DPX just fine, but unfortunately it doesn't recognize the dimensions and scaling that I enter in the render window, and just exports the full 4k.

there is no photoshop on the system I'm on and quicktime won't open it. Do I need a quicktime component?

We just imported the DPX sequence normally.

Things have either gotten simpler, or more complicated. I've tried TIFF and Uncompressed 10-bit as well now, and I'm having the same problem...

there should be a button in redcine to delete/reset all metadata stored in the file.
Try start from there

It certainly sounds like REDCine is playing tricks on you. Try clearing the project of all clips, then only loading in a troublesome one and see if that's better. I am wondering if REDCine doesn't handle mixed colour temps well if they are on the same timeline (??).

As an aside, XNView is a good free DPX viewer, which will at least help you to check without tying up a smoke :-)

Clearing out the clips worked. Thanks to all!

David- I could be mistaken, but it looks like XNView doesn't work on a mac. Thanks anyway!

you can open dpx with aftereffects on mac, a other choice is the gluetool but they're not free.
