  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can we take our color corrections in resolve and bring them into RCX? Our DP likes doing her first light in Resolve but the editor has been seeing weird bugs in Avid and prefers the trancode from RCX.

Will RCX read the .drp save or can I export to an extension RCX can read and import?

Thanks in advance.

What kind of bugs? What codec was used for editing in Avid? MXF, Dnxhd? I haven't seen or heard of any kind of weirdness in Avid with files from Resolve transcodes.
I had a guy telling me, that he was seeing weird gamma shift from my Prores 444. I asked him to make sure his software wasn't set for Full range instead of Legal range. He replied, that he couldn't find how to do it. Then I told him to just grab included DPX and transcode those to Prores in AE. Well, lo and behold, he wasn't on Mac, then he said, he doesn't have AE and then I found out, that he was using Combustion 2008! Long story short, most of the time, when I hear something like "weird bugs", it's usually is a cockpit error or an outdated software.
In my experience, trying to come up with "innovative" solutions to "weird bugs" only leads to "innovative" failure...

resolve and red cine x use totally different algorithms--while the UI may have similar features (lift, gamma, gain) the math behind it is totally different.

if red cine could import luts, you could export a lut from resolve and bring it into red cine, but i dont believe thats an available feature as of yet

DnXHD175X.

What file format would I try for a LUT from Resolve to RCX?

???

Resolve does not export RCX files nor do we have plans for same.
You should have no problem with DNxHD files rendered by Resolve in your Avid and if you do it's best to fix that issue as there are no alternatives to passing Resolve grades to Avid editors.

Can you be more specific about which bugs? The only one I have encountered on productions have been user error. Mainly around REEL identification or lack thereof.
