HD-SDI to an Anycast/Tricaster/insert mixer of choice, just like any other 1080p HD signal, is the answer to that. You'll need to make sure you've got a mixer that can handle "real" 1080p, not just 1080PsF, but as long as it does, you're good to go.Some concerns I have is how to rig a multi camera system (up to 5) to the broadcast booth? I assume with that much data you would be looking at fiber?
i could see it as an AMAZING option for sports broadcasts. a kind of special camera for super slo mo replays. shooting at 250fps or something, through cinematic glass would be quite a way for a sports broadcaster to add something very special to their telecasts.
At its current level of development the Epic has some challenges for live work.
Certainly would open up some cool possibilities - for one of the companies I sit on the board of, we'd LOVE to have a live 4k/5k output (to RGB, but as you say, that could be via some kind of Rocket-enabled off-board system if needs be) and have some very funky potential uses for it.On a related note, I would love to see a module that would pump out 4K in real time for I-mag and other large presentation venues. Perhaps a module that sent out the RAW data over fiber for fast decoding in an outboard "black box"... I realize this is not trivial, but I think there would be tons of cool applications.
Of course as a camera manufacturer we look for all the opportunities, and "studio" use is one of them Certainly some challenges there, as have been described above, but nothing on that list precludes the camera from being used in those kinds of applications. The one thing I would say is our cameras are not intended to shoot "the local news" i.e. forget ENG, but certainly embrace EFP -as Gibby has eloquently described several times.
Curious, can you elaborate any further? Hope to be receiving our M body soon to use in studio live work ... I noticed HDMI output is currently disabled but we'll be using the on-board HD-SDI tap. Curious what these "challenges" are that you describe so we know what to expect, if anything, different from what workarounds we are already prepared for.
