Hi all. . .

I'm looking to use my 10 foot male-to-male power cable that came with our REDs to separate the battery from the camera for car shots. I could use the charger, but it makes too much noise and I don't want to disable the fan or have to mess with running the cable out of the trunk.

What I'm looking for a is a simple little adapter or cable that would turn the male-to-male cable that goes between the charger and the RED into a female-to-male that allow me to run the cable between the RED battery cradle and the RED.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Stephen

Note that you won't get RED battery life readout on the EVF/LCD as the 10ft cable doesn't have the data pins wired unfortunately.

ALSO NOTE: If you do use the charger with RED's discontinued and recalled cigarette lighter charger adapter, do NOT start the car while it is plugged in (and watch other people don't either!) - unfortunately the cigarette lighter charger adapter, while well protected output wise, is not protected against input undervoltage such as when cranking the starter motor. This can induce a fault in the cigarette lighter charger such that it overheats severely enough to become a fire hazard.

Have someone make a cable. I did.
I made a 10' extension cable for each of my cameras, so that you can put the power supply or Red charger farther away.

Harry

Who made your cables, Harry? I've tried to find someone, but no one ever really gives me a quote!

Hey Stephen...
I had CSC in New York make one, and Abel Cine in New York the other (depending on where I was at that moment) They both did excellent work of course.
Mitch Gross has made several posts confirming that they are happy to make any cable that they feel capable of making. Certainly this is one of them. I'd contact him directly. He and the sales staff are always very responsive for me.
CSC has made numerous cables for me. Ask for Mike in sales; he can direct you to the cable tech and give you a quote. BTW, CSC also made a slick Lemo 3-pin RS female cable that goes to the Red 4-pin Lemo. Useful for legacy Arri remote start switches, Microforce cables, etc.
Cheers,
Harry

Does your cable pass battery data, Harry?

How much did they charge?

Thanks
Eric

I use Anton Bauer batteries so I don't have data regardless...
And most often I use it with a power supply, not the quickplate.
Can't remember the cost; it's in a banker's box with 2008 records up in my attic.
Call Mitch and get a quote! ;)
Cheers,
Harry

Thanks Harry.
