  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Do you have an Internet connection on your Workstation ?

Has anyone heard if it is possible to run a Virtual Machine for internet access to protect the host, or vise versa?

Certainly. But then you have two OSes running which takes up a fair share of RAM etc.

10 macs with internet connection here no issues at all. Previously I've run facilities with 60 or more macs with internet connectivity, no issues. Threat them with respect and all will be fine, the only rule is test upgrades and any apps first on a test machine before upgrading or changing the config of a production machine.

I still think if you don't connect to the internet it limit creativity.

Dont run any Virus scanning software on the production macs, what ever it is will cause issues. Theres no harm in running it realtime on the firewall though.

Personally all the work statikons that i've been on PC or MAC , FCP or Avid. I have never had them connected up to the internet. But saying that I do always have my iPod with me for entertianment when transcoding or rendering.

I'd recommend using Kaspersky Internet Security. I remember it was one of the best when I bought the license, passed on every virus test.

It's unintrusive, takes little RAM, processing power and disk reading time.

I've heard bad things about their new software suite called Kaspersky Pure, but it's relatively new, so go for the good old KIS.

Obrigado Pietro.

I've been using KIS for years. Very good anti-virus with firewall included.

So you have access to the internet on you workstation ?

Most important is to monitor what is coming in and out of your machine.
Just try to use TCPmonitor for a while to see how much of unknown connections are established with your machine.

Using file monitoring on top of antivirus software is good start.
