I'd like to broadcast something that occurred to me on another thread.

We all know that 4K PRORES is only possible on a Carbon Fibre Weapon.

But...how about 4K Quicktimes using DNxHR?

The codec has has LOTS of options/flavors for UHD.

These range from massive 444 bitrates of 166.61 MB/S (way too heavy for Raven and Scarlet-W's 140 MB/S boards). To way more flexible 55.07 and 17.14 bitrates (for DNxHR SQ and DNxHR LB).

As long as users are OK with 4K Quicktimes with some compression (which for quick turn arounds I'm sure is understandable), it would APPEAR DNxHR opens the door for 4K Quicktimes across the entire DSMC2 platform, no?

Even for Raven/Scarlet-W.

Just a thought.

Here are the numbers:

UHD (3840x2160) QUICKTIME RECORDING WITH AVID DNxHR:

DNxHR 444 = 166.61 MB/S___444 12 Bit 4.5:1 Compression
DNxHR HQX = 83.26 MB/S___422 12 Bit 5.5:1 Compression
DNxHR HQ = 83.26 MB/S___422 8 Bit 4.5:1 Compression
DNxHR SQ = 55.07 MB/S___422 8 Bit 7:1 Compression
DNxHR LB = 17.14 MB/S___422 8 Bit 22:1 Compression

I was actually wondering the same thing when I saw the announcement, forgot to look to see if anyone asked about it. Definitely interested in finding out if this is the case... I'd love to have the capability for travel/doc projects that don't always have ideal data management.

Data is one part of the equation. Processing power is another.

Gotcha. Still curious to know if DNxHR provides added flexibility over Prores, and if UHD encoding would be more viable on DSMC2 with this codec - in particular with cams with less bandwidth (Raven / Scarlet-W).

Holding out hope!

Exciting news that RED now records Avid, i cant wait to see how far red can push Firmware
