  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI Ronin

Yes, this not official DJI project - you can tell just by looking at it...
Looking forward to hear more about DJI's solution Peter. Think the joystick will be a great option to control the system as long as it's a good way to mount it on the handle.

Another thing I'm wondering about, is it possible to override the roll limitation on the Ronin to go 90 degree?
I am testing out some 360 pan shots that is going to be displayed on monitors that are positioned vertically.
Also for stills project it would be great to be able to switch between horizontal and vertical shooting without having to re-configure and balance the camera on its side.

long cameras need long arms .. in order to calibrate .camera has to tilt down 90 degrees .....sooo a step down block is needed at the pan motor .. not shown here.. to clear the camera from the pan motor ..and extend back an inch or 2 to regain pan balance ..im working on the stepdown block at the moment and will post asap ..

it is my considered opinion that RONIN IS NOT A PROFRESSIONAL GRADE GIMBAL ..because it does not have PROPORTIONAL PAN AND TILT CONTROL .. its only software .. so if u cam opps start DEMANDING IT .. we can end up wth a useable peace of equipment . cheers TROU BAYLISS

Anybody get their free extra Ronin battery yet?

Chaz,

I must have missed that...what do mean "free" extra Ronin battery?...sorry for asking, I tried a quick search but got lost in the weeds...I JUST bought an extra battery for $200...kicking myself if there was some type of free backup battery offer floating around! :frown5:

They're now bundling a second "free" battery with the Ronin's through most retailers.

Hahaha! That's hilarious!!

For the life of me I cannot figure out how to operate the Ronin through the Lightbridge (so that we don't get interference on the lightbridge monitor from the Ronin remote (they're on the same frequencies)). Has anyone figured this out?

I 've tried plugging in the orange cable to the Lightbridge transmitter box and running it up to the top of the Ronin and plugging it in (just like they say to do here and show a picture of it: http://eidecom.com/dji-ronin-first-couple-weeks/ ) but then I just don't get any response from the remote and I STILL get interference on top of that!

Ugh, so frustrated... and everytime I call DJI support when I finally get a minute off set there's a thirty minute wait.

Frank - I am not sure if the bundled remote work with the LightBridge, but I doubt it, as it does not have a trainer port. The LightBridge effectively takes over the wireless communication of the controller, but you need to plug the controller to the LightBridge itself - so you need something like the Futaba 14SG, 10J, etc...

Thanks, Peter. Is there a cheaper, more simple one that will work for the Lightbridge + Ronin combo solely?

Frank, you need two 3-position switches to take full advantage of the Ronin's controls and stay future-proof...
I'm myself a FUTABA guy and the 10J is amazing value for the money - you can find it for around $200 if you look around...
Other manufacturers might have cheaper models...
