HOWEVER...
There is a very important downfall as soon as you place longer arms on this type of Brushless Gimbals, as the weight and its center Axis gravity moves forward so much away form the main point of hunting and the body of the operator that they become much heavier to operate, also this will proof much harder to balance it's Center Axis... For this reason after testing I decided NOT to include this in my upcoming final Review of the Ronin, and instead designed a NEW Battery plate to accommodate my needs.
good point, the standard DJI Ronin fit most of the shooting requirement, the longer arm made Ronin harder to be hold, it also increase the weight of the gimbel rig.
Indeed Steven,
As we all know the further we move away from our bodies while forced to extend outwards our arms, the heavier and less manageable things of certain weight become to manage...
And both you and I are well accustomed about holding heavier set ups, especially so when dealing with 3D rig, which we both have done extensively, possibly myself having had the heaviest ones, since i know you guys have anice shoulder rig solution much lither then my ex Atom rig.
With anything stabilized such as the Ronin, and this goes for al other Gimbals as well, it is also important to absolutely maintain a design integrity with the system itself, and for this I find the extra longer arms solution not a nice one without the Center Pan axis arm also extended.
However I also would go and say that even so it is not ideal, it can be done and taken care with perfect results as afar as balancing if and only if, the resulting incapacity to properly balance the rig in it's center pan axis, is aided by placing any type of weight, either direct metal plates, or any accessories to counter balance the deficit, on the rear of the Ronin, near or above and or below were the battery is placed.
In similar fashion when the center of gravity of the camera rig is too high and some weight needs to be placed under th actual camera plate on the Ronin it self, possibly limiting both pan and or tilt range.
there is however one gimbal that doesnt have this problem, you dont have to perfectly balance it and you can be quite a bit off, and that is with cameras like the Amira and AlexaXT and that is the MAXIMA 30 which I will be demoing with at Satis Show.
The prototype version , you could back slide the Amira 2/3 of its weight , meaning it was back heavy 2/3 and at a total package of 9kgr camera, so 6kg at the back 3 kgr at front , hold it , push calibrate in 5 sec and it was working with out prob holding it there.
Not trying to say that its ideal, but its very good to know that you can just slide the camera in , ruffly at COG by eye and you are good to go.
so not all gimbals and a few more that coming with the same feature.:coolgleamA:
Kind regards
I was of course talking about all current 3 Axis Brushless Gimbal which share the basic ergonomic and gravitational design of the Ronin, based on perfect balance of all 3 Axis plus the Center Pan Axis arm in order to properly control all movements.
Sounds like yet an other very cool product you have coming and look forward to hear more about it...
Ok, I was also at IBC... But unfortunately for only one day, not nearly enough time to se everything...
Can't get away from all current projects till next year, so no more pleasure trips on show floors for me till NAB I guess... But if this is indeed an other Gimbal I am less interested , as I am very happy with the Ronin, I was under the impression it was a tool to work with the Ronin not to substitute...![]()
but like with all gimbals we will have to wait some time again to be made perfect,... like with this review![]()
Ketch , the Ronin is great at a great price, this is another entry, for big cams, at another price. The post was made to point out that not all gimbals relay in perefct balance Mambo jumbo, and fine tuning apps, and its not the only one coming.
Kind regards

Well Constantine, I won't call it mambo jambo, just different tools with different design with each having the good and the bad!
I for one have always welcomed different tools and always been at the front line to use them and see how they make my work better!
But I also understand the need for a very powerful Gimbal especially with large zooms in use when needed, so let's see what comes out, and while Inlook forward to read here on arU about it, but for now let's keep this as the Ronin tread...![]()
DJ RONIN on its way. If you don't post your review soon Ketch we will . hahahahahaha
DIYFILMTOOL had receved 50mm and 80mm DIJ Ronin Extended Arm, Installed and Tested with Sony Fs7. Production proved.
