  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

dji Ronin (XL) Multi Test-Shoot/Review!

Sounds great that the Ronin upstages the M10. Can't wait to see more efficient, cheaper solutions out there ! Let the war begin !

For my purposes the Ronin is far superior to the Movi as the Movi won't calibrate at sea. The ronin has no trouble with this. The fact that there is a $12000 price difference is a bonus in my favor this time.

MoVI has had 'motion boot' for 5 months now. Where did you get this info Mark?

Just a general note on weight (as I noticed some comments about endurance, training and so-forth) it's not only about how long you can go the first take, or even about how long you can go on subsequent long takes: it's also about the quality of your framing as the day wears on. The weight is a distraction, and fatigue reduces your ability to frame accurately and track smoothly. In this sense every gram counts.

So, where is this DJI Ronin multi-test review of the thread title?

Is it lost somewhere in those 42 pages? Can someone post the link to the video or the test review?

:confused5:

There isn't any. Ketch is a hype machine lol. Not one bit of footage 3 months after this thread is started...

Well guys,

At this point I need to refer you back to post #376...

Aside form that I have no excuse, but in all truth I should have NOT accepted this Beta Tester responsibility since I knew form the start that I would have been traveling away form by home base in the USA and across all of Europe for months and months till mid 2015.

But I did accept that responsibility, as I was under the honest impression of ben able to do so in time, yet DJI also had some timing issues in replacing my first Proto, which I broke myself when changing the XL arms, and I am the only one to blame on that one.

That delayed all a LOT because my replacement unit arrived right on the same day I had to leave LA... And arriving in Italy I was confronted with several months of Hospital crap.... (all good now)

Then after we did the short in Sardinia with the second Proto, and finally the Production units were shipped, which all reported the changes suggested by myself and all other great Beta team members, I was so happy with it, but my Proto unit was no longer the same... And I could not do the Video review on it for obvious reasons.

This suggested the absolute need to have this second proto, exchanged for a Production unit, so that my video review was in line with what any user would see and could do right on their units, and this has brought more delays...

I am now in Amsterdam, and will return to Italy shortly, and hope that by the time I am back DJI will have shipped out my new Production unit to Review for you guys, which as promised I'll do in depth and insuring that I'll give you my best and honest review.

My apologies for this.

Hey Ketch,

Thanks for all the info thus far! I'm seriously considering the Ronin and have a couple quick questions I hope you can help me out with!

1. I'd like to use the unit as a compliment to my Action Products Raptor steadicam system. Do you have any information on how the Ronin mounts to a steadicam arm?
2. Do you know if the O'Connor O-Box would be a workable MB option?
3. Do you have any opinions on the Ronin vs. the AllSteady 7?

Thanks!

My pleasure Kyle, and sorry again for my Video Review not coming out YET... But at this pint the Ball is on DJI's court and awaiting the Production unit for it...

As for your questions...

1) Yes, my colleague and fellow Reduser Pedro Guimaraes Has a solution for it... See here and when ordering tell him I sent you... http://cinemilled.com
2) Yes it would be, I use the Bright Tangerine Viv, so you'll be just fine.
3) Unfortunately while I have great knowledge of the Ronin, and few other Gimbals I have tested so far, the Allsteady 7 and BeSteady 4 are not in that list and I can not comment at this time.

Thanks for the fast response! No worries on the video review -- I know you're busy, and getting enough flak from other redusers that I don't need to add to it!

Thanks for the heads up on cinemilled! 100% what I was looking for.

I'm now very seriously considering the Ronin... appreciate all the info!

*IMPORTANT UPDATE*

*IMPORTANT UPDATE*

I am very happy to report that DJI has shipped me a Production Unit in Italy and I should be receiving it within days.

Also happy because much of the delays in getting me a Production Unit for my in detailed Video review, must have been because of the Heads at DJI were figuring out the best way to go about becoming one of my Corporate Sponsors... And now they ARE, and the arriving Ronin is mine to keep... ;)

As long promised and way overdue... I'll be doing this much awaited Detailed Video review of it...

But I ask that you be just a little more patient as I inter to do so on the next shoot, so to show toy guys start from in the field from the moment of opening the case till the start of the shoot in it's modes how to Balance and utilize the Ronin, without have to look at a Talking head with the Ronin on a Table... Insuring that no one misses important aspects of the Balancing and operational guidelines of this great Gimbal!!

PS: Should any of you have some special requests for me to talk about or show in this Video review, please fill free to post away, and while of course there are no guarantee I might actually be able to do or include what you ask on this video I'll surely try my best to do so, as it is always a great pleasure to help out my fellow Reduser and this Fantastic Community.

Ketch,
Happy to hear that you have finally got your production unit for review. It was becoming uncomfortable reading people doubt your intentions. I am sure you will do a balanced review despite DJI being your sponsor.
Cheers,
Sabyasachi
