DJI RONIN PRO SUPPORT

Camera Plate Slipping

Does anyone else have issues with the camera quick release plate slipping or moving?

We have tightened the quick release with the hex key, but on our shoot yesterday the camera moved on the plate during filming with the camera pointing straight down.

Does the quick release need to be very very tight?

We we are running an Epic with the Tokina 11-16 2.8 and a red volt in the side handle. So it's not a very heavy setup.

Thomas, I just managed to fit our Ronin in a Petrol Bag PD335 backpack. Just took the top handle off and put the gimbal in the bag and I strapped the top handle to the side of the bag which was stable enough to travel on foot and I wouldn't worry if it'll fall off.

I don't think you can fit a red in there, maybe a small dslr. The only thing left out is the stand which I'm planning to carry it in a tripod bag or something like that..

By the way the backpack is huge..

Has anyone come up with a way to position the Ronin in inverted mode while rigging it?

Hi Adrian,

I found frequent retightening the hex adjustable lockdowns is necessary. I have found my carbon fiber, with average rigging requires that as well.

As I pointed out in one my videos......even with lightweight setups the locking lever is just for looks. I ALWAYS tighten down with the allen firmly. if you dont and just depend on the lever action I have found particularly on heavier setups it will always slide.

Hey all, I just purchased a Ronin after building, balancing, and operating one myself a few days ago. Everything is working great, except... the motors are making odd noises. I use a Movi M5 and M10 on a regular basis so I am confident the physical balance is correct. I have tried many different manual stiffness settings in the software as well as trying the calibrate system, and auto tune features (after updating to the current firmware). The best way to describe the noise and problem is to point you to a (crude) video someone else made a month ago. http://youtu.be/pDdqmTtfZE8

It was originally posted in the DJI forums and has not yet been resolved. Looking for any info to help the situation as I'm looking to use this system in a few days. I would greatly appreciate any input. Thanks!

Hey Mike,
Welcome to RedUser! I also own the Ronin but mine doesn't make that odd noses. Bring your Ronin to my office so we can test them side by side. We can also test it wirth my Epic Dragon. I will also show you my Cinemilled accessories for the steadicam.

Mike, I've had that noise on my Ronin but I 've seen a lot of Ronin's act this way so I didn't think It was a problem. I recently used a heavy camera setup and the noise decreased but It was still there..

Thanks Jay! I did not know you owned a Ronin, I will certainly take you up on that offer and shoot you a message off the forum.

Thank you for the response, Emir. I had used a perfectly silent unit 3 days ago then purchased mine 2 days ago. In a lot of cases I suppose the noise doesn't effect anything too much. But when I buy something I expect it to be in 100% working order. I'm still open to the fact that I have set something up incorrectly although I do not believe that is the case.

Just did my first shoot yesterday with the Ronin. Overall I am very happy with the outcome coming from using a steadicam. It is a different style of shooting, and both have there issues and advantages depending on the shot. I am very happy with the smoothness of the shots I got, no vertical movement and very smooth overall. I do find that on a longer follow, with dedband at 1 on the pan, accel around 50, and speed around 70, is that you have to overcompensate a bit to get the camera to make the move you are trying to do, and once it does the move it does it a bit quick. Maybe if I turn the speed down of the pan, but was trying to compensate for the fact that it moves a bit slower to start and later then your movements. I will keep working on it, but would love a quicker response on the smoothtrack movements, so that I can have it move slower for a more natural movement. also we did a shot moving quick around a poker table in circles, unless you walk doing sidesteps it is nearly impossiple. I had the handles perpindicular to my body but the camera would be pointing at a 45 degree angle between me and the handles so that I could not have the camera pointing in towards the table as much as I would like. It worked well having someone control the camera with the remote, as to keep the camera angled the correct way as I circled, but for about 8 shots in a row, every time I got to one corner the camera would drift the oppposite way he was telling it to and was not going to work. anyways we got some amazing shots other then a few things that would be awesome to work out for us.

Hey everybody,
I realize I'm a little late on this announcement, but we finally came out with a Mac Software:

http://www.dji.com/product/ronin/download

The software is good for doing everything your iPhone can do, additionally you can:
-Update firmware of the Ronin by connecting it to the Micro USB
-Reset password

This is great news. One less reason to boot in Windows...

Thanks!

Hi All,

I got my Ronin recently and here are my quick video with it.

It seems that one of the motor is not working properly, we have reset to factory default but still does not help.

Anybody having the same problem and what is your solution ?

Thanks,

Cuong

Unboxed a ronin today and I have a couple of questions. I thought i start with an light setup with a still camera on it (canon 650) for pure testing. First time booting up the ronin I got a vibrating problem that i read happens alot when using the a light camera. So i lowered the stiffness wich fixed the problems. But i can still hear a little hum. How quite should the ronin be?

If the rig is turned of, should the roll axis be able to be in level or does it matter? Mine is leaning alot when its turned of. But when I put in the camera its balenced and looks good.

Cinemilled arm extensions and Leica summilux on dragon

Cinemilled arm extensions and Leica summilux on dragon

Cold, wet and fun day riding this thing up and down SF hilly streets on a big budget commercial shoot with the Ronin smoothing things out even while shooting on 75mm and 100mm.... Good times. The cinemilled arm extensions allowing us to run a battery on the back of the Dragon, use a Leica summilux and a Arri mattebox. The cinemilled arm extensions are in stock and usually ship same day.... www.cinemilled.com

Closeup of the camera build... Notice we used a Microlite HD transmitter due to the long distances we had to transmit. Also mounted my Cmotion receiver on the back to help with balance.

it was the first time I ever used the Ronin with a 100mm lens and we also did alot of work vehicle mounted at 75mm. I have to say I was impressed. I had alot of sublte control over the frame in follow mode, more than I thought I would have.

Very cool.. Been looking at possibilities for mounting a red brick on the handlebars because It won't fit on the back of the red, but i think you've convinced me to just get arm extensions.. seems to do the trick
