  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI RONIN PRO SUPPORT

I would get the cinemilled arm extensions over the DJI longer arms. The DJI longer arms are more of a permanent swap and throw off the pan balance more.

Here is a link to the cinemilled are extensions - http://cinemilled.com/product/dji-ronin-armextenders/

I was thinking about it but it stated 'available on backorder' on the cinemilled site. Considering they are a smaller company I wasn't really in the mood to wait forever for them to fulfill their backorder. 1uas had them in stock and they were cheaper in price than cinemilled.

Yea I didn't see they were back ordered. I heard the 80mm arms are too long for the original ronin case though. I'm still trying to decide what I'm going with. Let me know how the dji arms work

DJI has two upgraded arms available. If you have the A arms, you can upgrade to the B arms (50mm longer) or C arms (80mm longer). The case was designed to fit both of these sizes if you decide to switch to these arms.

Well I got a chance to fly (Octocopter) and test DJI's new firmware today to see how much better the Ronin would perform in the horizon drift arena when accelerating sideways. DJI did manage to help the situation some, but if you plan to mount the Ronin on a car, a boat, plan to hold it out the side door of a full scale helicopter you are still going to be pretty upset about the amount of horizon drift when accelerating. I find it rather amusing that a single guy with limited resources (Alexmos) has much better performance in this area with his brushless gimbal control boards than someone like DJI who has resources out the wazoo. Maybe the next firmware release will see more improvements in this area.

Thanks Neal. Should of thought of that. Appreciate it.

As you saw from the install video it really is a pain in the butt and it takes soooo long. The extensions are the way to go 10min install or removal and honestly the DJI arms are really too long for most situations and really decrease the performance. Which is why we made our Cinemilled extensions even smaller than the "b". "B" DJI arms are 50mm longer.....our Extensions are 40mm we found that this is really the ideal extension length. This gives you just enough length to do what most of us want to do and doesnt push the design or motor strength o where they start to loose a lot of performance.

In the end, watch the cinemilled vs. DJI arms video ....then the DJI install video for the long arms.........make you own conclusions and decisions.

oh yeah....fits just fine in the stock case with no mods.

Also they are listed as backordered on our site at the moment.....but we just finished working thru the weekend and they will be back in STOCK and shipping on Tuesday!!

Great since I just ordered the Cinemilled Ronin arm extensions even though they are listed as backordered.

I'm experiencing an issue with the quick release mount of my top handle bar.
It can't be fully locked with the knob and shows some play except if I screw it like a mad man with the allen key but I have the feeling this is not normal and that one day it will end up breaking.
Anyone has the same problem?

Someone else on the forum had this problem; they returned it to the retailer they bought it from, and they swapped it out for a new one... I *think* it was Daniel Peters... I think... English dude that shoots for Hype, has a couple of sleeves (tattoos)... GH4 & BMPC...

Help guys: I just had a huge problem. On my first professional shoot with my Ronin the tilt motor quit working. I couldnt get it to test pan or tilt speeds and the remote controller wouldnt work on the tilt axis. After 1 minute trying to make it work the remote controller quit working, even with the "bind" red light still on. I changed batteries, tried to recalibrate it, connect it to the 'gimbal' software trough usb and nothing worked.:cry::cry: Anyone had similar issues? What should I do?

Thanks

DJI notes suggest theres a thumbwheel accessory for tilt and pan. Any one seen it or know of any options available and distributors don't seem to have stock.

thanks,

Thanks Mike, I will talk with them this week.

after a proper balance ronin seem to be about 20degrees off center on the pan arm how is this corrected?

Hi Sergio. The instructions are clearly written in the user manual. I strongly suggest you download the latest version from DJI website here:

http://www.dji.com/product/ronin/download

Go into the Assistant App (or the PC Assistant) and click the "Calibrate Center" - then follow the onscreen instructions...

I am sure that the 16 lb payload limit is a bit conservative. Having said that - you don't want to be using gear at its limits, so I would personally not recommend to exceed the maximum payload.
If you have a one-off situation and can perfectly balance the setup - I would not be afraid to put 20 lb, but not for extended periods and certainly not on a regular basis.
It is worth reminding that any damage to the rig caused by loading it beyond the specified limits is not covered under the warranty... ;o)

Did i see somewhere on here that someone had put a ronin in a backpack and travelled with it? And did they also bundle their red into the backpack aswell?

Heading to NZ next week, would love to have it all in one. Currently don't have a backpack, but looking to buy this week.

Anyone have any experience or ideas?

Wait a bit if you can. I am bringing a GB, soon, if all goes well, that will accommodate you, as regards the back pack. etc.. More to follow.

Thank You very much
