DJI RONIN PRO SUPPORT

Pro Support

Pro Support

Hi Everybody,

what about the Pro Support? Is it available already, i thought they wanted to start last Monday?

For anyone wanting to mount the Ronin with Arca-Swiss gear here's an Arca-Swiss dovetail mount we're in the process of making now. Direct bolt on replacement.

Batteries!

Batteries!

So what's the story with spare Ronin batteries? I'm currently kitting mine out, but I'll be damned if I'd take it out on a job with just one Ronin battery. I can't find any order form or source for Ronin batts. Who's got the inside line?

Ronin spare batteries, when?

This one battery per rig situation is not cool at all. DJI should know a pro user needs at least two or three. In spite of the great price, this batt situation is unacceptable. WTF? When and who will have them?

It's a great battery, but we need more. I just had a job with it, and was able to survive with just the one battery, but was charging it between setups and at lunch. Lots of stress this way...

Do you have the other half of this mount too so a Ronin Dovetail can be converted to Arca Swiss standard ?

That's effectively what this does. The DJI dovetail piece on the pan motor is unbolted and this is bolted in it's place. I can think of no reason to do the other way around unless you wanted to mount the Ronin handles to an Arca Swiss mount for some reason?

I have a shoot tomorrow - same situation - hope and pray it doesn't crap out or run out.

You guys need to address this now!

Sorry guys - just came back from shoot with NAMELESS PRODUCTIONS in Nagoya for submission to the ART OF AMAZING competition...

Epic-MX + Ultra Primes (and the ALLSTAR 18-35 T1.8) + RONIN + PARALINX TOMAHAWK (and Scarlet as B-cam on sticks)

About batteries - I have already answered this. DJI is doing their best to push the manufacture of the batteries as a priority.
They have been overwhelmed with the number of orders and each Ronin needs to be shipped with its battery.
They can not start selling spare batteries until they catch up on all the Ronin pre-orders.
Just imagine if you have placed your Ronin order and how are being held back because someone else got his spare battery...
Even I as a beta-tester have only one battery for now.
The production is ramping up and the spare batteries will be available soon - when I get the dates I will share here ASAP!

In the meantime - the battery in the Ronin lasts well over the specified 4 hrs and charges back up very quickly.
Here are my tips to get your through a full day of shooting on a single battery (in the meantime):

1. Kill the motors when you resting the system on the stand for more then 5 min. It only takes 2 seconds to kill and power them back up when you used the remote controller (top left switch - flip quickly 3 times between top and bottom position to kill active motors or re-enable killed ones)

2. If you are going to have a 30 min or longer break - power down your system and charge the battery. Even if you do just 1 hr charge during lunch break - that will be enough for 4 hrs morning shoot - 1 hr lunch break re-charge - 4 hrs after lunch shoot...

Thanks for your patience...

Does anyone know if the DJI Ronin with an Epic will work on the Freefly TERO? Not sure what the weight restrictions of the TERO are.

Hi Matthew, don't waste 5000$ on a car that cost no more than 1500€, that is a 1/5 buggy.

Sorry to hijack the thread but Tito, if you have any plan to mount or buy that type of thing for 1500€, please share it ;)

Its only to go between the top bar and an Arca-swiss mount of some sorts quickly.

I don't know much about radio control products so heres a question, if you were to purchase a upgraded radio control transmitter are there any leading manufacturers or units better suited for our purposes for Ronin. i.e. Futaba or Spektrum etc. What would the advantages be ?

For Ronin or any DJI product Futaba is better suited. DJI use the same system, so you could bind to Ronin without adding a receiver.
The advanteges are that you could set speed curves, velocity, etc. You could set various differents setting at the flip of a switch; also Tx gimbals are better, so you have a better control feeling. That's my 5 cents.

Sounds good, is there a preferred TX unit from Futuba. Im guessing the more you pay the better it gets but might be some facilities you can't use or we don't need ?

Take into account that I do not check it yet. I will be back from holidays on Monday, and I will start my tests then.
But DJI A2 work with futaba and all DJI's are S-BUS compatible (they called it D-BUS).
The 14 SG should be the best option, but 8 FG will be a great option too.
There are other options, you should check that the system is FASST, because there are some models that are FHSS and are not compatible.
Usually the more you pay the more channels you get, but 8 channels are more than needed for the Ronin.
Also the more you pay the better the Tx gimbals. The functions that you need (dual rates and End points) are in all programmable transmitters, so more funtions will not be needed.

Cool, thanks for the info.

We hope to add a cable dolly and motorise it so add channels for control would be essential for a separate reciever.

Yes to what Tito have said - Futaba is the best to go and in particular the 14-SG. Once you buy this remote you won't need another. The ability to control 14 channels spread across two receivers is another plus. You can bind one with the Ronin and mount secondary on the camera to control various accessories - for example a START/STOP switch, or a revolutionary FIZ control I will be releasing later this year... ;o)

Good to know other transmitters are compatible with Ronin. First two day shoot with it and I came away feeling that the transmitter is the weakest component in the kit. The little flip switches are too easy to bump into the wrong positions, etc... Feels cheap and not as robust as you would expect on a professional production tool.

The other thing we noticed is the stand is painted and not anodized or powder coated and the black paint is already coming off.... Not a big deal considering it's just a stand.. My main concern is the quality of the gimbal itself and that all feels good. And we got some great shots!
