  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI RED Cable & Power Distributor with Scarlet-W

I personally don't know if you would need to update the firmware, maybe? I would say that's a last ditch though.

I also think having DJI test on a DSMC1 camera is not the best way to solve as they're using a different system with slightly different power-draw. What is good is that the system is technically working overall.

I might suggest getting the cam to power via AC, then unplugging AC and plugging in your Ronin brick setup. Just trying to narrow down as much as possible and focus on what the issue could be.

Definitely give those Switronix bricks a try via D-Tap. That should really help.

I feel so invested now....I want to know what is wrong! haha

Well,l I received the cable and power distributor back from DJI today and I'm not crazy after all - Still not working.

I compiled a little video to show whats going on.

I show that I'm using the AC Wall Power First to show that the expander does work when there is power coming into the camera via the LEMO input.
I attempt to use a full brick battery with the DJI cable to power the camera - No luck
I attempt lastly to use a full DJI battery via the Power Distributor - No luck

So it's either the Cable or something wrong with the V-Lock Expander on my Scarlet-W

I'm stumped - seriously.

Here is the video: https://vimeo.com/180960756

I would agree with your assessment - either the cable, or the module is bad - not the power source. Given that the AC adapter powers it properly, I would imagine that the cable is the most likely culprit. Try another, known working, cable to sort out the answer. If you're up Encinitas way I'd be happy to meet up and try with my cable.

Well that's a super in-depth reply and definitely makes me think it's the cable. Especially if DJI only tested on a DSMC1 body. Maybe you can order the WC one and see if that works any better?

After sending my cable back to DJI again they still won't help me and refuse to just refund my money now. Worst customer service I've ever had with a major company. Makes me really appreciate companies like RED Digital who I know wholeheartedly care about their customers and wouldn't put policy over customer satisfaction.

Any chance you bought through a dealer or someone like BH? I do my best to never buy direct through DJI for this exact reason. Not that it will help your current situation, but in the future. Had a few bum Inspire batteries when the I1 first came out and BH just said "oh yeah, had a lot of those, just send em back and we'll ship you new ones right away."

Have you upgraded your Ronin firmware? Mine didn't work till I upgraded the firmware... works great now

Did you see the posted video? He plugs into a well charged Switronix battery and that does not power the camera either.

I suspect the cable may be bad.

DJI giving me the f'in run around yet again. I truly hate that company's customer service. It's awful. I just want a refund at this point and will buy wooden camera's and run bricks off a belt clip.

It honestly seems like the cable at this point not working with DSMC2. Could always try this cable -- http://woodencamera.com/RED/Power-RED/d-tap-to-epic-scarlet-dragon-weapon-braided-flex-cable.html

Thanks Brendan - I bought one off Amazon Prime that had good solid reviews for $50 (6 pin to Dtap) It's coming Thursday so we'll see. I sent the DJI combo back to DJI again this morning. Can't wait to hear what they say next. I'm so fed up with them at this point I just want my money back even if the damn thing finally does end up working.

Good luck with that mate! Seems they have a no-refund policy. Only replacement. Bought their Ronin-MX grip back in July and couldn't be used due to misalignment, sent it back in since August 2nd or 3rd, up till now no refund no replacement. BTW found their power cable too stiff, creates tension on the motors when I tilt the gimbal, Had to ditch for a more flexible one I bought on amazon for $45
