hey guys,

i've been a huge RED fanboy for so long, and I think the technology Jim and the guys have put together is really revolutionary ... but as a company, you guys aren't there, yet. i'm writing this in the hopes that it will help you, by seeing things from a new perspective...

From a logistical standpoint, it seems like there is a pattern of things being just... slightly off. I've received a handful of invoices, most of them conflicting. My deposits were lost in accounting and I had to fax in my deposit receipts. The $7500 cap on credit card payments took me completely off guard and caused a tremendous amount of stress when I received the 'pay-for-your-camera-by-this-date-or-lose-your-place' deadline email (later dropped, I realize, but I didn't know that at the time... maybe this one is my fault? i pour over these boards, but somehow I missed this cap.)

The first rep working with me is gone now, no idea if he left or if I just got reassigned ... to be replaced by Travis, who is much better, by the way, I don't mean for this to be a reflection of him. he came along late in the game and had to come up to speed quickly. things were even worse before he started working with me... but I still get the feeling he doesn't have the authority to help me nail this stuff down, and now I feel bad for pestering him on a daily basis.

I find myself now in a strange limbo where I don't have any idea when my camera is going to arrive. I've been told there is no holdup -- money is paid, parts are in, camera is "ready to go." In fact, I was told last week that my camera would arrive on "friday, monday or tuesday (yesterday) at the latest". Here we are on Wednesday and I still don't have a shipping number, or any increased visibility on when my camera will arrive. I understand delays, but the only answer I get from my rep is "it is back in shipping ready to go." I'm not even sure what that means. I had a small production scheduled for this weekend, which at this point I have no choice but to cancel ... not the end of the world to push it off, of course, but costs me some money and could have been avoided with a better estimate of my ship date.

I've been in startups before, so I understand where all of this is coming from. Given the size that you guys are trying to grow to in so little time, wires get crossed, and things fall through the cracks. As I said, I love the dream of RED, I've been a fan forever (in the long run a few weeks won't make any difference *at all*), but... I don't know, the errors in communication and the inability to give me firm dates aren't filling me with a sense of confidence. This is a big purchase for me. A little better job of setting expectations on the front end might cause a lot less heartache later.

Thanks for listening,

JT; we got the same story that the camera was 'out the door' but no tracking number, didn't show that day, called again on a Fri. and got the 'out the door' comment again no tracking. Then it showed up the following Monday.
Have faith it will happen. BTW everything we ordered (less the EVF) was included in the order.
Good luck, I'm sure it's 'out the door'.

Yes,
There seem to be some flaws, but in the end.. RED does the right thing. Regarding the invoices, they are some what unlogical.
I didn't get tracking numbers from RED but FEDEX emailed had some automatic email service telling me they registerd the shipment. Did you check your spam box?

sad to hear that your experience wasnt so flawless...

we also had to reorganize some aspects of the 2nd red and everyone at red was helpful and they fixed everything. (they even found the missing titanium r from the second cam, thanks!)

i think its really necessary to allow red to have some teething problems in the logistics side, the sheer amount of orders going out is a fast rampup and logistics are always tricky (ask any airline of your choice...).

A better question might be....
How can we as customers help RED with this problem?

If there is anything I could do to help this problem I'd love to help out..
Nothing is more frustrating then waiting for a camera like this just to realize that something is wrong..

here's a perfect example of the organization problem:
1.I made my long list of accessories for my red and made the wire on monday.
2.then, by chance i was here on reduser and saw a thread about the cable for the reddrive.
3. to my surprise, i found out that the reddrive did NOT come with the required cable! i mean, how am i supposed to make the reddrive work without the cable!!
4. at the least, Red should state this CLEARLY at the online store that the cable in no included (since they only stopped including the cable a few weeks ago). Not to mention the cable costs $200!!!!!
5. Red NEVER said anything to me about the cable, in other words, i was going to buy the Reddrive, it was gonna be shipped to me and for obvious reasons, i would not be able to use the drive without the cable!! Red should at least let me know that i'm purchasing the drive and that i need the $200 cable for it to work, don't you think??

*sigh*

thanks for the heads up. I guess I need to add a drive cable to my order.

i should remind all that i reserved this drive over six months ago, so in my opinion, if i ordered this drive when the cable WAS still included, it should be included! don't you think!!
i understand the "things will change' bit, but this is a little much, no?

Yikes!

We received no advice about the drive cable not being included; we're supposed to receive our tracking number this week and I greatly fear trying to add the drive cables (I like backup) because it might screw up our order.

So... is the drive cable the same as the LCD/EVF cable? I've order spares of those and could make do for a bit while trying a direct order.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo
