Just worked with Dino in SF Bay Area on a Grocery Outlet comml for Snow Films. Worked great with my QTAKE - auto record, TC was spot-on, got a 1080/23.98 feed.
Sweet, Dino!
Update:
Today is March 1st, which means I have had my camera for 18 days. in those 18 days I have worked on 6 projects for 8 shoot days, traveled 6 days and prepped two others and had 2 days off.
the camera has performed flawlessly.
saturday in vegas i posted about a shoot with documentarian errol morris whom is known for his long takes, well we shot 1.1 terabytes with my epic and did not have one problem.
today i am in the greater metropolitan new york area and we shot 1.3 terabytes on two cameras, a red one and my epic, greater than 2/3'rds of the footage is EPIC. also without any problems.
i have figured out the fan settings that work best to keep the camera cool on these long takes shows, 32 % roll, 80% standby, and also make the sound guy happy.
most of all i am now most excited to see the DP's face as they work with the camera, learn the menus and interact with it as if they have had used it for years.
I can't thank the red team enough for creating this machine that certainly will change the cinema industry yet again.
i will post more info about the shot i am on in a day or so, i am busy downloading and replicating now.
let me add that one of the greatest things the epic does is write the data, or as it was in the r1, post. epic does it in a flash. i mean literally when you cut, it takes less than a second to go from red, to yellow and then back to white (standby mode).
what i did not know is that when you roll out, all of the data gets written no problem as well. simply amazing.
in manual fan mode you can set the run fans from between 20% AND 100%, SAME WITH STANDBY MODE.
If you want to continue talking about focus pulling... start a new thread. People are having to wade through too much stuff to get to Dino's posts.

crash said there was something funky with the camera, i took out the SSD card and sure enough there was a very small piece of link inside the area that has the pins...
so to quickly update everyone that cares...EPIC-M #00087 has been basically been working with very few breaks since Feb, 11. Since 99.95%of my jobs are for clients, i am not allowed to post stills or r3d's and in a lot of cases not even aloud to talk about the job until it is available online, on tv or in a theatre.
what i can say is that this camera continues to be bullet-proof. we shoot terabytes a day sometime 1, sometimes 2, sometimes 3 and no problems at all. the touch screen as become my new best friend and we are learning new things everyday for best practices...which leads me to this post.
i had an interesting thing happen today that i wanted to share.
we are shooting a music video ( crash DP) for a country and western artist. crash said there was something funky with the camera, i took out the SSD card and sure enough there was a very small piece of link inside the area that has the pins...
so we now have a system whereby the cards are covered in tape always except when they are in the camera.
happy shooting
