  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Did somebody try the red drive on Epic yet?

... Just because we like to make things right... we will be offering a trade in program for your RED DRIVES after NAB. We will give you 50% of the purchase price you paid for your RED DRIVE against the purchase of a 256GB SSD card. Hopefully this will help bring you guys forward into the SSD program.

Okay now I'll have all 75 Red ONe camera Deals I Brokered contact me to trade in their RED DRIVES... ha ha.

RED continues to Impress and Amaze!!

We are not going to be making a drive module for the DSMC program. When we came up with that module, we had no sight of the SSD cards and how advantageous they would be. SSD media outweighs the benefits in so many ways, forcing customers to use spinning Drives on EPIC at a reduced resolution and reduced quality settings just didn't make enough sense to continue the legacy.

This is a very generous offer for the Red-Raids, which I'll be happy to take advantage of, but what of the Red-Rams? My Bomb Squad rep informed me that Red-Rams are not going to be part of this deal?

Or does "Red Drives" include the red-rams?

thanks.

I think part of the reason RED have made this offer is that the RED DRIVE was sold from the store as 'EPIC compatible'; this was advertised as a feature. I don't know if RED RAM was ever sold on this basis. If it wasn't, it seems reasonable to exclude it; it still works as advertised on RED ONE.

Either way, Jarred is right; except for special applications like mine, everything except SSD *is* obsolete.

Mike

That's a very nice offer! Right now Red Drives can be sold used at high prices but that may change once the SSD modules for the R1 start shipping en masse. It's also less hassle to deal directly with Red.

Wow that is a great deal. You will love the new SSD's they are just a bit smaller than an I-Phone 4

I'm not sure I follow your meaning, as the Red-Rams are SSD's, just in a Red-Raid enclosure. This is the first thread I had heard they they were not making a module. I had placed and order and purchased 4 Red-Rams after reading that there would be a adaptive module for "drives". That's not specific to Rams or Raids, as that qualifies both of them.

I'd understand if the Red-Rams were not included in this deal, if there was an adaptor for them to use with Epics & Scarlets. But since there is not anymore, then why wouldn't Rams be included? Seems like the people who paid a premium for the initial, and until now, only SSD solution for Red from the time they were offered, is getting the shaft. So the Red-Rams are not modular, and the more failure-prone cousin of the Rams is getting the better deal.

I don't understand, seems very unfair to Red-Ram customers, who have probably been very good customers.

If you have an order for the side SSD in already, the backorders should be 90% sent out over the next 48 hours.

THIS Should be in a post on RECON labeled "Good news!" ;-)

Not to mention the RedDrive exchange programme, way to go!

Hey Jarred,

Is this program happening? I'm so very interested in this.
