forgive me if its been asked before...I searched but the raw number of posts makes it hard to do an accurate search. If I were to place a deposit down next month, and the production schedule is upped (not delayed) and I find I need another month or two to get the funds avalible, is it possible to delay my shipment until the funds are ready (assuming a reasonable grace period, not keeping it on hold for 6 months, more like 2-3 max)

Its a sticky situation, I know I need one by a certain date, and to get it I must reserve soon, but I also know the funds are going to be in at an unknown point, months before its needed, but possibly after my number comes up. Is there a way to work it so I can get the camera even if funds are slow, without loosing my number and starting all over again. All this is complicated by the fact I won't know where I fit until I place my deposit. I know once the deposit is down, I won't be asking for a refund (unless production is severly delayed...at which point I am renting) but I don't know for sure when the funds will be avalible...politics I won't go into.

Any words of advice or comfort?

I wouldn't think that the production schedule will change too much, certainly not accelerated till the units get into 4 figures at least. Read somewhere that if you order this month (Jan), your best bet would be early/mid summer. somebody correct me if I'm wrong

if you order next month, you will have a serial no. around 3500

the best what can happen to you is that you get your camera within 6 month, and you should pay when your camera is ready for delivery.

and no, you cant wait until you have money...
what you can do:
get a short time loan if your number arises, then pay the bank, your parents, friends, wife, whoever when you get your money.

I thought I read somewhere that we are given a one month grace period to produce the funds and if we can't buy right away, RED will send the next available camera to us when we finally do send the funds?? (as opposed to putting us in the back of the line as a bonus to the early adopters/believers ?)

Is this correct?

Also, I have a question: If we can't find the funding right away, will RED hold our reservation number so that when we do buy the camera, we still will get the cool low serial number printed on it to match the cool metal icon/gift that was sent to the early adopters/serial number holders?

asfaik you can choose to wait for delivery if you are not satisfied with the current functions of the camera.

but on the other side, this cam will never be finished, and you will have the possibility to upgrade in the future.

the best for you is to order the camera when you are sure about your funds.

to dudeman/ this was not an advice....it was meant that this promise is not logical...but i thing everbody understand what jim jannard means.

something like: you can wait until its rock solid...and not you can wait until you have money.

but it is good that you mentionened your thoughts :)

Best advice I think would be contact RED directly regarding any questions on orders, delivery, payments etc... They would be the BEST source of information along those lines. Not saying the forum users are not helpful, this is information only known inside RED.

I have seen posts from Brent to contact him directly for questions regarding orders, payments etc...

If you require a camera before yours is delivered... You could always rent one.

Not sure if this was comforting, but it's words of advice.

Randomacronym, My guess is that if you are not trying to "game the system", that is, you are sincere about ouning the RED within a reasonable time-frame of your delivery date, they will work with you. This is possible as long as they are a young company with daily oversight of the ouner, but once things get bigger and more assembly-line like in the process of manufacture, this may have to change.

Contact them, but convey to them that you are truly worthy.

May the RED Rooster crow in that which is under you dominion.

Did you look into a rental option? The Rental thread is full of listings...and don't forget the DIT/Engineer that will help with the onset shots and Quicktime play backs.
