A great monitor got its successor.

you mean you got its predecessor?

I like how they list the response time from "grey to grey." Most manufacturers like to cheat by measuring response time.

I wonder if this will work with the HDMI out from RED?

Maybe I'm just way behind on my tech, but what is a "display port"?

It is not clear as to the function of this "port" but I would venture to guess that it is a HDMI pass through. I have several of the earlier 2405s and really like them, but the added HDMI support along with dual DVI capability are really nice additions on this latest version. I may just have to consider an upgrade.

Does any gear actually have one of the ports to send a signal out to the monitor? Cameras are just now getting HDMI, how much longer till they switch to this display port thing-a-mabob?

Yes, got a $20 adapter at Circuit City. Works great on the Dell 2405. Doesn't work on all monitors though, so you do have to test.

I wonder...which would be better for field monitoring, this, or the Apple 23" Cinema Display.

Thoughts?

Someone should start a database for monitors that work with RED's HDMI output.

From the Operations Guide:
*Note: RED has tested Dell 1708FP (1280 x 1024) and the LG L206W (1680 x 1050) PC monitors with an HDMI to DVI adaptor cable. You should test for PC monitor compatibility.

If a person is just monitoring RED on location I think the 1708FP makes more sense. Red isn't putting out more than 1280x(can't remember) via the HDMI or HD-SDI.

The 1708 is cheaper, lighter and more portable. If you destroy it then that's not as big a deal.

I have numerous HDMI / DVI monitors but so far, of all that I have, only the 2405 has worked. I am curious about the 1708, any one tried it out?

There's also the E248WFP, which is only $379 right now. No HDMI, just DVI. But about half the price.

Also, I know this is off topic to this thread, has anyone tried the Gateway FHD2400? Has a ton of inputs and the reviews are great.

the apple monitors don't work unfortunately.

Oh, I just posted on another thread asking about this.

So why don't they work?

I was able to go HD-SDI to Blackmagic to Apple monitor and it worked, though wouldn't scale.

I just got this monitor.

RED HDMI to Gateway HDMI scales to the 1080p size of the monitor. It was nice to see a big image. However, trying to match the colors to the RED LCD has been a challenge. I don't want to have to explain to people on set why the colors are different between the two monitors. Any suggestions on how to calibrate the monitor and match it to the RED LCD?

I had the same experience that Shawn had with the Blackmagic HDlink. HD-SDI to Blackmagic to Gateway DVI came in at 720p and did not scale to fill the screen. Does anyone know if you can setup the blackmagic via the USB connection and make it scale the image? Or is this a function of the monitor? I'll try to test this in the coming week, but it would be cool if someone who had more experience with the Blackmagic HDlink chime in.
