I just moved to Vancouver and so I grabbed an cheapo HP w2408h with the hope that it could do triple duty: 1) as the monitor for the little Redcine PC I was putting together 2) a TV since I didn't have one other than my laptop with Windows Media Center and 3) as a cheap field monitor.
Yes, yes and sorta.
Once I adjusted the display with Nvidia's software, it is usable as a computer monitor.
TV is fine.
As a Red field monitor it works... but its "Vivid Color" oversaturates the image and when the input is HDMI the monitor has very few adjustments enabled. Also the up-rez it does from the Red's HDMI 720 is less than optimal... but I don't think that any low end monitor can do a good job.
They have similar specs excepting that claimed gamut - I'd like to look at them side by side to see if the Dell 2408WFP warrants costing 50% more than the HP. You can get the HP for about $475 at NCIX compared to $700 for the Dell... so it is relatively cheap for a 24" LCD.
If someone is looking for low priced field monitor that they know works off the Red's HDMI then this is an option.
