Delays and Frustration...

That was a cool story Axel. Thanks for sharing. I was thinking walmart also. Except RED is more like Target with cooler products and way better commercials (to come). Wonder what the first video from the original RED team will look like. Then again, they should stay busy working on RED accessories and upgrades rather then commercials, so leave it to us guys. :)

Mr.J.J.

You are my Hero...You live efter your personal Philosophy and teach through action...You have faith and inspire others to have faith...You are larger than life...Its takes a big soul to encompass the range of character you have demonstrated, from valiant bravado to authentic humility...You have a strong sence of responsbility and commitment to your vision...We love you and stand behind you with our support to the end of the line...Fight! Fight! Fight!

Well said. With the amount of negativity and corruption seen with business in general, it's great to see the kind of characteristics Jim and RED possess. It's how we've decided to build our own company philosophy...do good work at fair prices and the work will come. Besides can anyone seriously call what we do WORK???? Are these tools or toys? :gun:

In regards to delays, could someone post the first notice from RED that your camera is on the way? I'll do the same. But I bet Jim will beat us to the punch anyway... I'm just anxiously excited!

Ok Visakk that's just rediculous.
Cool down, I am just sarcastic.

Who charges for firmware and driver updates?
I am not exactly referring to the camera companies, but in general. If the word "Firmware" is little pinch for you, they can name it differently.

Mind you we pay $1000 a year for maintanance subscriptions to some of our software for major upgrades and point releases but I've never payed for patches in my life.

I agree that you have never paid for patches in your life, it NO way indicative that no company charged their customers for patches.
My credentials include working for top the great IBM also.
I remember days, one of my employer charged their customers $400/hour just to main the webpages, when webdevelopment was greek&latin to many.

I am sorry if, I could not frame my sentence understood by many.

Panasonic charged $100 for the firmware upgrade to the HVX200 so it could use 16GB P2 cards. -- bastards.

I just get annoyed because RED has started to get praised for actions which are completely normal and exhaulted as mind blowing break throughs in operation which are completely standard run of the mill business practices by the the other 99% of the market.

"THANK YOU JIM FOR ENABLING THE FEATURES YOU COULDN'T GET DONE IN TIME BUT PUT IN YOUR MARKETING MATERIALS!"

The Red.com webpage still has audio listed as a feature. When audio gets enabled that'll be lovely but I'm not going to praise Red for following through on their feature list later than they had hoped. The DVX100A/B wasn't all that exciting for me sure there were some improvements, but just barely and I would be hard pressed to tell which I was working with.

I half expect a post next saying.

"Jim haven't you learned the basics of business?

Eat first unborn son.
Break kneecaps of customer upon delivery.
Then charge $10,000 for ambulance call.
Steal SS# and empty bank accounts.
Steal girlfriend/wife.
Not deliver features on spec page.
"
</irrational rant>

If anyone is brave enough to ask, I am certainly brave enough to say "Sorry... no".

From what I can tell, the nearest competing product is the newly announced Sony F35 which sells for, I am told, $350,000. If you take an 80% discount off that price, you are at $70,000. If you asked for, and got, an additional 20% discount... you would be at $56,000. And you can't take delivery of an F35 for several months. And that would only be outside of the US.

So I think the RED ONE, a few months late from an "estimated delivery date" is still a pretty good deal. Additionally, if anyone disagrees, they have the right to ask for their deposit back with interest... something I have never heard offered from any other company.

We are bending over backwards for our customers and have been completely open about our development. If this type of presentation leads to someone asking for an additional discount, we would have to reconsider the way we communicate to our customers. And that would be a bad thing.

Jim
Hi Jim,
If Stewart takes on board the concept that "everything in life changes"
then he would in fact be surfing the same Zen like wave as your good self.
I think you two guys have connected here in some way on this level.
I can't speak for the man but I get the feeling everything in life has
changed enough for Stewart to now request a one off 20% discount on his camera.
Stewart is just a little guy from Hong Kong with a funny way of expressing
himself. I know your've said "sorry .....no" but I beg you reconsider.
A 20% discount for Stewart would be a great gesture, being the only guy
with the guts to ask for it he should be the only guy to recieve it.
Stewart's the Oliver Twist of reduser.net, god bless him.
I know if everything in life changed for Stewart's benefit (20% discount)
he would be a very happy man and maybe think again before posting
his big angry red characters/letters on this forum in the future.
Cheers Mezmo

Please do me for 20 per cent discount also.
you thank many times,
Han
