Just out of curiosity, where are the LCDs and EVFs being assembled (country) ?
Some how, I doubt china. (no offense to Chinese redusers)

What portion of the components are original red design as opposed to stock parts?

Singapore and the US.

Jim

I agree, the accessories are an obvious crucial companion but more important the extra features that may be enabled.

Good luck are getting them out the door.

Best

no problem...thanks for the update. Looking forward to getting our new baby. If I can wait 1.5 years I can wait another 4 days.

Digitalfx... please tell the other 49 to feel the same way you do... :-)

We all appreciate your patience. The wait will be worth it.

Jim

Thanks Jim. No worries. Even Steve Jobs makes a customer mistake. At least, you do not have a million ipod owners wanting $100 from you! ;-)

However, unlike Apple, RED is for the most part letting us help you and not keeping too many things secret of what is coming up.

Speaking of which, when is Apple going to allow Blu-Ray authoring?!
I'm more tempted to delay my RED just so Apple will catch up and come out with their new OS, NEW QUAD CORE, AND NEW BLU-RAY authoring...

Without that my RED footage is gonna be sitting on harddrives for a while.

Adobe Encore already supports Blu-Ray, it surprises me that apple hasn't joined one side other yet. they would sway a lot of people. My bet is they are waiting for a combo hd-dvd blu-ray burner before going with ether. I just wish Adobe had better support for red. If only adobe was as forward thinking about hardware thats not attached to the computer as apple is.

JANNARD ROCKS!

picked up #31 friday, had a question friday night, called Jim directly he answered my question with ease and perfection like i was his best friend since grade school...

Have camera and guzzling the koolaide, 20 days will go quick 50-100, in the mean time, if your in LA and have a res, send me an PM and if your close I'll come by and u can check it out, or schedule a 1/2 day tech rental and we can go through the whole thing, and if you have a mac/intel you will walk away with footage that is sweet.

Now thats customer service. But I kind of think its more that that, Jim is one of us, just as into shooting as we are, and just like us he doesn't mind talking with someone about a subject he loves.

Singapore and the US.

Jim

Hope you're joking. I am in Singapore. Let me know if I need to check on what they are doing or help shipped them out. i do not want my 3 Reds delayed.

Not a joke, the serial number sticker on the bottom of the camera clearly states "Made in Singapore."

Yesterday I spent some time processing on this approach of RED. Guess we all are anxious to get the camera on our hands, and simultaneously Jim keeps saying they are doing their very best to serve everybody. One of things I realized yesterday is that this a new way oof designing, producing and selling a camera, and it takes time to get everybody used to the new culture.

One of the first things to realize is, if there is a delay, it just means we will get the newest possible engineering design. That is, if we bought a completely ready camera from Sony, Panasonic, Canon, etc., in practice it meant the camera was designed already two or three years ago. In case of RED, the approach is quite different. It seems the cameras delivered next year will still be, at least from the software side, the latest design, and who knows, if a new CCD is adopted, the hardware can also be updated.

So, to control the anxious mind, perhaps it is wortwhile to ask oneself, what were the alternative. What about Jim and the team has kept everything confidental until they suddenly came out to the markets announcing, we have a 4K camera body for 17.500$? I guess, one would have been rather frustrated, if one had just bought some other HD camera with much higher price not meeting the technical quality of RED. In addition, I guess it would help to avoid some of the pitfalls of production if an army of people were hired to deal with those manufacturing components. But, if so, that would also quite likely affect the price tag.

Summing up, this is a completely new marketing approach making a clever use of the web to share the information. Also having a slim organization enables RED to react quickly to changes which can't be avoided. I've never thought RED is scam, but when I did not know anything about Oakley or never heard of Jim Jannard, I was cautious whether the project is realistic or built partly above wishful thinking. With time confidence was built, and have started to highly appreciate the "everything may change" approach. Of course, if possible, would like to get my camera tomorrow, but if I had a chance to choose, still found it much better having all this pre-information than suddenly hearing of RED just after had made some other choice which would have turned out to be a mistake.

No begging for patience needed Jim. I think all the regulars understand the game by now. Frustrating as it may be for some who scheduled some shoots right out of the box - but deep down we all understand.

There is an ancient Hawaiian value called ha'ah'a... or being humble. Today, Jim you are as Hawaiian as it gets.

I think most of us also know that you feel the most pain and the most frustration when situations like this happen.

You know I tell my kids about you... not only because you're our fearless RED leader... But because you represent a different kind of corporate leader... one with character and conscience and one who still has a heart.
Thanks for being such a stand-up guy.

aloha,

Keith

Can the reservation holders in Singapore collect the parts made in Singapore then??
