  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

December Dragon Update

Ok.. here are the details for the Carbon Fiber Upgrade...

Carbon Fiber Upgrades at this time can only be done when your camera is in for the Epic M-X to Dragon sensor upgrade.

Price is $19,750 for the upgrade to take your Aluminum Dragon and upgrade it to a Magnesium and Carbon Dragon. Doesn't matter if you are Epic M or X , as the upgrade pretty replaces almost everything in your existing camera. That price is on top of your Sensor Upgrade.

This includes the upgrade to Magnesium / Carbon Fiber Brain, Replacement to a new Carbon Fiber Side SSD ( either mini or normal ) , and replacement of your Ti PL mount to the new Magnesium PL Mount.

This is not going to be a normal process you can buy through the store.. you need to ask for this through your Bombsquad Rep either in advance ( i.e. now ) or right before you send you camera in for the upgrade. The only exception to that is the guys out there that have received their sensor upgrades already or have them in our shop for upgrade as we speak.

So lets try this out... I don't think this option will last for long. If this upgrade ends up choking out our Carbon line we will need to kill it. It takes A LONG time to machine and make the Carbon Fiber panels for each Dragon Carbon camera so please don't be upset if this option vanishes unexpectedly.

Right now the bulk of Paid Carbon Dragons will be shipped before Christmas and a few days after. The holiday kinda screws with the program but we still are going to have our production floor open through the holidays to assemble, test and ship Carbon Dragons and Upgrades in process as they come out of the oven. If you place a new Carbon Dragon order today, It will ship in the first weeks or two of January.

Sounds like a no brainier... If I didn't already have a Carbon, I'd be all over this!
 
I guess I'll be the jerk to ask this time... How's the Scarlet Dragon upgrades looking? I know we got a long way till all the epics happen, but are there any more details?

We can't say enough thanks for adding GPU acceleration but there are quite a few of us using the original Rocket in Thunderbolt enclosures. Unless Apple allows external GPUs soon it would be a huge value to us to be able to use the old Rocket in mobile situations w/Dragon.
 
Thanks for the updates!

My brain is still processing this Carbon upgrade thing. I'm spending too much money lately, might have to chew on this a bit and see how it works out when my EPIC-M or EPIC-X get called in.
 
Excellent news, man that's a lot of hard work ... just amazed.

Any thoughts on the monochrome dragon timeline, I would like to go monochrome dragon, but if the timeline is way out there I was thinking going color dragon. I'm in the middle of filming plus I don't want to trade in my monochrome epic - I love that camera so much I want to be buried with it and dare anyone tear it from my corpse ... so would like to upgrade my scarlets to monochrome dragon.

Not sure if the demand is there, so I'm cool with what ever you guys want to do.

By months what can we assume like two months or five months.....and will it be realistic to assume that the EPIC M upgrades have started and will be in full swing in January 2014.

Nice update... No Carbon upgrade for us... But, nice to see the Redvolt XL Module at last coming out, ordered first thing when it went live, and can't wait for it to replace the V-Lock battery mount, it will make Dragon M8 look so slick... And together with the Mini Mags I think we'll have a "NEW" camera fill all together... Got to love RED's Modularity and Obsolesce obsolete vision... Thanks Jarred!!

If you need to do some planning to figure out what path you are going take and to figure out what to spend where, you have lots of time. They are not even officially released yet remember, so you have another 24-25 hours till you can start ordering them, and another 26-27 hours before they start shipping. ;)
