Hey Everyone,
Here is the student short film Deceit I shot (DP/Cam Op) back in August. We shot this over 3 Days with a $3,000 budget. We shot on the school's Red One MX in 4.5k, rated at 500ISO, with Zeiss CP.2 lenses. It was a tough shoot and most of the time I had to light for 360 degrees of shooting due to time constraints (which was difficult since we weren't on a stage). We didn't have access to a sound stage so the main location was set in a classroom at our school, but when we showed a rough cut to the class none of the students recognized it so I think production design did it's job. There was also no windows in the room.

Lighting was limited to an arri kit, kino kit, litepanel mini, 3 par64's and a leko for all of the days with the exception of our exterior shot on day 1 where I had a 5k fresnel.

I am in the process of coloring the film now and will post it once it's completed but wanted to get people thoughts on the pre color grabs and short clips I posted. Thanks for checking it out!

"DECEIT"

Grabs look good. Would love to see the post-grad vid.

Thanks Adnan! I appreciate you checking this out. Ill probably post the trailer soon as I can't post the film since it's going the festival route.

Looks really good Matt.

As a camera assistant/aspiring cinematographer, I think all your shots looks extremely good.

Shows you have a huge understanding for lighting and composition. The second frame really sticks out for me. I really like that shot.

I would love to see some graded as well.

Wouldn't be surprise to see your name roll up on the big screens in Seattle.

Thanks for the kind words Alan! I thank you for taking time out to have a look.

Look good Matt. Aesthetic reminds me of Margin Call for some reason. I like that you used CP2s. I have a set of Contax primes (the CP2's god parents), so I'm happy whenever someone shoots on Zeiss still derived glass.

Looks great, all around. Good luck with it. Keep shooting. Everything.

Hey Nick!
Thank you.

Looks EXCELLENT

My favorite is that the room had NO window.....but you created one with your lighting.

Again.....NICE WORK!

haha thanks Martin! The only thing I could find around campus to mimic windows was one of those rice paper room dividers which happened to have shutters on it as well. So I set it up on the dolly with the Leko so when we shot in the other directions the grip could just rotate the setup and we were ready to shoot. Rice paper makes really great diffusion. You can actually see it in pictures 8 & 9 in the background being used to create a false wall.

1. These grabs are looking really nice; would like to see them in motion.

2. I realize you worked really hard on this and are fishing for critiques and/or compliments, but bumping your thread every day is bad form and gets you banned on most web forums. Instead of 'Bump' you can update when you have something meaningful to share about the project. Thanks! - The thread police

haha thanks.

I've been a member since 2008 and never had a complaint. I'm looking for constructive feedback on my images now (pre color) not in a month when the film is completely done. When it is I will post for comments on the film itself. Thanks for the speech though.
