Whoa! #2

Whoa! #2

Well, another killer announcement day for RED.
Seems it's hard to get any work done, when all the specs are flying around.
Went through this thread during the morning hours... some of it is pretty funny stuff, indeed... I cannot understand the ungratefulness, but i know i cannot understand everyone. Don't want to. Don't need to.

First off, the R1 upgrade path seems truly unreal. What a way to take care of your customers. Truly unheard of. This never existed before. I don't have an R1, but it makes you feel like it's right, to be a part of this revolution. To be a customer. This fall i will be an owner, as well.

Secondly, the specs are just thrilling. Affordable. Customizable. Ultra Quality. And Scarlet has time lapse [thanks for putting that in].
Can't wait to get more details when they are released.
Can't wait to get my hands on the new gear.
Thank you RED team. Your efforts are ultra highly appreciated!
This is inspirational.

OK i give up with RED and their "announcements". These posts do nothing except frustrate us looking for a solution this side of whenever.

I give up and will stop bothering to wait and look toward to current crop of DSLRs which do actually deliver what they say on the tin. I begrudgingly have to start to agree that these announcements are just marketing for items that do not exists and "expect change" doesn't cut the mustard as to why things are constantly pushed back. It leans towards the vaporware tag RED have (maybe unjustly) earned.

Disappointing !

I have to say that this dec 3rd announcement doesn't make the nov 13th announcement "insignificant" as Jim stated. Because the big deal about the 13th remains the same, the fully modular concept. I expected the specs and price points to shift around. Especially as they started building the stuff in the real world. So maybe the "insignificant" thing put the wrong idea in people's heads.

But in NO WAY am I disappointed. RED is giving us a play-by-play of the development of their next generations cameras, and they're listening to our suggestions on these forums. The cameras improve every time a new announcement is made. I look forward to all future RED announcements.

Call me a fanboy if you wish, but my mind is blown away by what RED is offering. I still remember when the DVX was a HUGE deal to me. I don't understand people complaining about any RED announcements and especially about what RED is offering.

I'll use the DVX, an HVX, and a D40 for now. Those humble cameras will hold me over until Scarlet is available, I'll wait over a year if I have to.

Stuart answered that in the middle of this thread - it is REDCODE RGB compression rather than REDCODE RAW comression.

Thanks... I've read the whole thread but somehow missed that.

I am LOVING the Quad HD idea... and the FF 1080... SO UNREAL that you are listing all of these! The actual necessary formats... 4k 2k included cause I am wondering if we might get the shaded windows in-monitor for seeing the 1080 while recording 2k... cause that's not too heavy and a little wiggle room for framing adjustments is always nice.

Well, have to wait for the post solutions to develop and see how fast RedCode got... RC80 sounds scary HEAVY already... but we might be in for a treat there too!

:hint: :hint:

Great news indeed! Congratulations!!

I couldn't see any info about weight, delivery dates, and lens mounts for the different brains. I might have missed it (and appologize if that is so), but do anyone know if there are changes since nov. 13th?

Are

thanks

thanks

thank you red team...
when we can reserve a scarlet?:w00t:
i need two,:usd:

ps. bye bye sony & panasonic & jvc

Very good news, veeeeeery good news, thanks RED Team for this christmas gift.

I think it will be a veeeery goot christmas gift next year too ;)

By the way: I think RED has been delivering very fast when you think what they had to achieve in this time frame. AND: What improvements they could include with last minute changes.

Next christmas will be fun ;))

"Mysterium X Select" Sensors are the best of the litter...

HAHAHA... call it "Overclock Stock" or "l33t Stock" or "Superclocked"... and let us dial in the voltage! HAHAHA... add some neon and slap a water-cooling unit on it then call it a day.

HAHAHA... this is awesome... I wish I had a R1 and were getting an X... I'd engrave it something uber retarded like that too... hehe... that would be my geek heaven fantasy. Then I'd walk in slow motion with it. :)

There's something strange with the thread. I cannot advance in order to go to the last pages.

EDIT -- Am I posting three pages back?

wow this is quite shocking. Thank you JJ and the entire Red team for the generous upgrade
path.

I for one will take 2 Scarlets and a Epic X upgrade....and still not pay as much as I did
for my HDX900....which is NOT upgradeable.

thanks again

Will any of these new units solve the extreme limitation the Red One currently has at handling long exposures.

In spite of several threads on this issue (red and blue fixed position hot pixels all over the frames) no-one at Red seems to have responded and explained what causes these and if they are ever going to be fixed.

They don't seem to exist on any other digital capture system I've ever seen.

When I bought my Red one I thought it would be a solution to all my shooting needs. Because of this problem I still have to carry a full dslr kit to shoot my long exposure time-lapse sequences.

Not really interested in upgrading or switching to scarlet if this issue is not solved.

Jarred,

Wouldn't it be better to close this thread and discuss separately per thread? It's not easy to follow dozens of pages!

Just my opinion,

E. :-)

EDIT -- It does seem difficult the task to the RED team, too! It's not easy to help with any answer immersed with a significant amount of doubts, questions and comments.

Yep... $3750 for a complete kit for fixed lens Scarlet. It's game over for the rest of the "prosumer" fixed lens crowd. I don't see Panasonic offering anything RAW next year, let alone at 3K... They still can't even put true 1920x1080 native resolution chips into any of their sub $10K cameras, unless I've missed something in the latest models.

It is not game over, it was already agreed that they will simply skip a release cycle, and then come out offering barely in-RED-class cameras till the end of days fighting for second place amongst themselves.

yeah, the page count is messed up. Also i've been having trouble searching this forum too, i try to look up something quoted or do a search and it never takes me to the specific post... what's going on here?
