  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What I'm not seeing on this forum is many comments on the significance of what the engineers have achieved. Jim mentioned a radical breakthrough they figured out to achieve these f'n amazing frame rates in particular--- along with a way to cool it. In my opinion, not enough credit is being paid for these breakthroughs and in the short amount of time these guys achieved it. It should be answering alot of the bitching/moaning about 30fps limitations. Being able to achieve all of the improvements is nothing less than spectacular and the engineers should get a HUGE thanks (and raise).

AWESOME WORK

About fixed lens 2/3 Scarlet

About fixed lens 2/3 Scarlet

Is the FF 1080p format the standard 1920x1080 HD? And not the full frame of something like specified on sensor sizes?

Will the fixed 8x lens have standard 0.8 gear pitch to use follow focus devices etc? Actually, will all the lenses from RED come with geared focus/zoom/aperture rings, it seems kind of so from the renders but might as well be my wishful thinking?

Thanks,
T

Hear, Hear!

These new numbers are staggering across the board. I'm over the moon with the inclusion of 75fps burst mode in the S35 SCARLET. Icing on the cake. It's clear the engineers thought right outside the box on squeezing performance out of these machines (300fps on some model!? Incredible!).

The Full Sensor 1080P mode uses the entire sensor for a given camera and then down converts it on the fly to 1920x1080p. The processing involved in achieving this places a limit on Framerate despite the reduced frame-size (when compared to the sensor's native resolution) - Very handy!

Wow,just waded through the 800 or so posts on this thread,I can't believe the response some people, gave to the announcements,'TOSSERS'.
X certainly marks the spot for me,beautiful piece of work Red,possibly the most desirable thing I've seen in years.
Well done, pat yourselves on the back.
No slacking now, noses to the grindstone,we want to see the real thing.
Tom.

Thanks Red team
thanks for listening and keeping the price affordable for scarlet fixed lens. it will be good start for the people like me. I cant wait to work with one.

Hey Everyone,

So has RED made any groundbreaking releases, besides that of the Epic X, and when do people expect more information to be released?

blown completely off my feet

Obsolescence Obsolete
Never on a road shall I ever meet
a camera from RED that is not so neat
as to blow me completely off my feet

The day I get to experience RED (instead of just raving about it)
will be a great day.

Is there any info about what the 'complete kit' includes on the Scarlet fixed lens? Will this kit be useable with the s35 brain for those who want to upgrade later? What else would be required, if anything?

All I am hoping for is for a windowed guideline for the Quad HD frame while being able to record the full 5k or 6k for wiggle room and to be able to do the same with 3k/2k with a window for 1080p... that would be sweet. So sweet... well since I am getting greedy not a day after the announcement :D why not ask if there is any hail mary sort of possibility for ramping in S35 and FF35 Scarlet..? It is absolutely unnecessary for us to like the cameras, think about it there is no way we won't buy a RED now... ZERO... so it becomes a matter of how much you have to spend (and what sort of post u can support)... so there is no real need to reserve ramping for Epic or 2/3" only... perhaps only ramps within the continuous framerates and not including the buffer cause that would be a pain do mess with... but ramping within 30fps would stack up very nicely against being able to ramp within 100fps for Epic! And 24fps to 30fps can certainly find a place in my final cut... certainly a lot easier to find a uses for 24fps to 26fps, or 28fps :)

So... and wouldn't it be nice Jim to be able to say that you offer "all cinematic camera features in all of your cameras"? :D

come on Jim... say "It's working! He got me... two shampoo bottles! It's working!" and please let it happen if it is possible to fit it in the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG list of features already waiting to be R&D'ed.

This is gun'a b c00l!

I'm very happy with the new announcements. I don't really want to own a lot of gear, but if I was inclined to buy something, the Scarlet S35 is an amazing camera.

Doesn't everyone realize what this camera is? It's a full on replacement for a 35mm film camera for the price of a tripod and head. Plus the option to do a bit of high frame rate. Completely blows me away. The added frame rates and the 1080 option are truly what puts this camera as the sweet spot in the line up.

I'm not sure I'd every really want to use any of these cameras as my dedicated still camera, so the idea of FF doesn't really interest me. In my mind, indie folks want something that can come as close as possible to 35mm film, so S35 is all many would ever need.

very happy indeed.

It's ok, Jim!
Only the last, little request... lcd-flip function for scarlet with fixed lens...
I know you can do it :-)
Thanks

Damn I still can't get the last 3 pages. stuck at 89 out of 92. Anyone else having this trouble (Now where will this post?)

Jim I have two questions:
Since everything is so modular, could we have two storage modules (probably HDD instead of CF) and record simultaneusly to be able to have two copies from the get-go?

Anyone thought about this?

I had thought of a similar thing, and already emailed Brent.

What I suggested was that it would be useful to record to both CF and HD at the same time, so that if the HD gets upset by motion/knock/etc, you still have a safe copy on CF.

Mars attacks again!

Jim and team, you've proved once more that you're brutal alien invaders, determined to annihilate camera competition on Earth. :alien:

Great news. Everyone should be happy now.

Please bring the 2/3" Scarlets as soon as possible [for us "small" guys :bleh:].

P.S. Aargh, I'm so ****ing hyped about the FF35 Scarlet! You evil REDHeads, leave my wallet alone!

Color me completely confused. Today's announcement nerfed the FF35 Scarlet (no more 3K @ 60P), and while the addition of the new "X" model with bonus modules included for free is wildly beyond generous, my guess is that most people shelling out $28,000+ on a camera are going to want the benefits of the monstro sensor (better performance, increased dynamic range, better A/D, etc.) - which you can't get with this "exclusive limited edition" upgrade. So we're back where we started... in order to use s35 lenses and get monstro quality, you're forced to upgrade to the FF Epic and waste a good chunk of its sensor when you shoot. Why is the one option that I believe clearly the majority of the audience is asking for so fundamentally missing?

Additionally, I see that the FF Scarlet took a price cut - which is great - but along with that we lost the overcranking ability; that's a really curious adjustment. If it needs better electronics in order to shoot faster, I think most would gladly pay the original $3,000 extra cost in order to get 60p at 3K from the camera. Or would that just eat into too many Epic sales...
