I have a question for those at Red:

Is the fact that “cinema” was added to the 2/3 Scarlet with interchangeable lenses a hint to those of us in the “broadcast” world that we should be looking elsewhere for a camera?

If not, why the term cinema?

Thanks

Cinema because the images are just that good. I think the Full frame 1080p, Redcode RGB will go a long way to handling broadcast.

Am I the only one that is a bit shocked here by the responses?

As part of a company that owns a RED ONE, I think we are unbelievably lucky to be part of this action.

If we owned a Sony camera, or even looked at some of the Apple Products we've just purchased, we wouldn't get a single penny back if we tried to trade in our older gear for new gear. So everyone who is complaining about the Epic-X, take a step back and think about that first. That is a HUGE step. And we should be all thankful that the people at RED care enough about us to want to keep us all from being obsolete.

Also, I couldn't complain one bit about our RED ONE compared to all the other digital cameras we've used. And I look at the Specs for the Epic X, and I think, wow, they just topped the best digital camera in the world.

The Epic-X is light years better spec wise then the ONE, yet i read some people saying it is a camera that 'nobody wants'. well guess what, I want one. And the Price is more then fair in my opinion.

And if you're not sold on the Epic-X but have a RED ONE, guess what, you're not married to getting the X, there's plenty of other things you can do, if you want more dynamic range ( I agree, who doesn't) then don't get the X, instead, take that $17,500 trade in (which is the only company i know of ever doing this) and get what you want, it's that simple.

It's not possible for RED to make YOUR camera that spec's out the way each individual wants it for their needs. Think about it. I doubt you wrote the company that built your last computer before buying it complaining about it. You looked at what they had to offer, decided what was best for you and what you could afford and pulled the trigger. This isn't any different except sadly for them (red), they've got an open forum for people who have nothing better to do with their time then complain about minute things that in the end, won't really stop them from making beautiful images, unless they believe it takes a camera to make beautiful images, then they're in for a world of surprises.

If you loved the RED ONE, read the specs, the X is even more to love, and if for some reason you don't love it, don't buy it. But please don't waste time bitching at Jim because a camera that hasn't been release and is subject to change anyway isn't what you want.

Well said, Hucker.

This is awesome, now I just have to decide between the fixed scarlet and the 2/3" removable lens scarlet (assuming a pl mount will be available for use w/16mm glass (there's a ton and it's not that expensive yet). I think that will depend on what's the difference between the $3750 kit and the I/O and battery modules and lcd prices.

To be fair, I am sure Canon and Panasonic won't just sit back and watch Scarlet roll in and take the spotlight. Scarlet won't be out for a long while; long enough for Canon and Panasonic to produce something new. Just sayin'.

I doubt they will have anything comparable by next year especially with their newer models recently out, which don't compare on paper with the Scarlet 2/3 at current price point.

logic would say it's because it doesn't have enough megapixels to compete in the still photography market

Does anyone have an idea when prices for the modules will be available?

It would make planning the purchase much easier to at least have some ball park figures available.
