is this AN announcement or is it THE announcement. I hope it's just AN announcement.

nice to see the sensor only upgrade is not included in the "use once" category. very good news. upgrade now and then swap to epic later if need be. at least its an option now. wonder if you get a 22k allowance if you swap after the xtra 4500$sensor upgrade?

WTF they didn't update the G4 cube today...

I am very happy to see that they are moving from black to a grey color on the camera body. Grey doesn't reflect any considerable amount of light but is much better for cooling in sunlight.

Not if you're going to Mars. Then you'd need a space-ship, but who knows - maybe RED have options for that too, down the road... :sarcasm:

There would have to be a Red Store on Mars. I mean, come on...where else are you going to take the 617? Space is the only thing that could fit this thing! :P

Look at what Jim said here:

If he treats his first customers this way that is a good sign that RED will probably keep them as customers for life. Hopefully, the new "scarleteers" who join the ranks of RED camera owners will also find RED loyal to them.

I am reminded of how loyal Harley riders are to The Motor Company from Milwaukee (After HD re-invented itself with the EVO engines). HOG (Harley Owners Group) is beneficial to both the riders and the company.

No product is perfect. But good customer service and openness as well as innovation make RED a breath of fresh air.

Is the deadline past for the Private=Package=Deal or is there still time for last minute Christmas Shopping?

DogDay.

"...Given all these factors, we were able to re-write the system specs, to the benefit of our customers. We felt no compulsion to keep these advances a secret. So here we are."

Here it comes!!!

Why? Could You explain?
To reward those who took the plunge and bought a RED One. I think there are people out there who heard the RED One trade in offer for the Epic, BUT didn't want to invest in the RED One right away because they were waiting on Epic specs. Let's face it, you can trade your RED One in, but did you know if you needed what Epic has to offer? For a long time, we only knew you could trade it in for full value, but you didn't know what you would get in return. Now you have some idea, but as Jim has stated, the specs are likely to change again. If Scarlet can do many of the things that the RED One can do (or that you need), why would you buy a RED One now, and then pay for a Scarlet? The trade-in offer still stands, but it's not an incentive. Those people who already committed to RED should be rewarded with the EPIC-X offer.

Jim ......."our RED engineering team came up with a radical new approach to overcoming some of the previous system limitations. Given all these factors, we were able to re-write the system specs, to the benefit of our customers. We felt no compulsion to keep these advances a secret. So here we are......"

Not sure how rewrite systems specs translate to/effect your announcements which look to be $$ based. Thank you for them by the way!

Are there any technology announcements?

D

why does every post by jim have to be 10 minutes apart! haha

My spot in line...

My spot in line...

I get that the trade in credit is a one time only event. Will access to future products continue to be based on original serial number or is that "used up" once I upgrade from the RedOne?

Yes, this question is perhaps self-serving, but I would bet I am not the only one who would like to know. Just sayin'

The incredible new specs we are announcing today does come with a justifiably slight schedule hit.

At least it is not a massive delivery hit! :}
