so, I noticed that the battery module (on the accessories sheet, the EPIC X, and the off-roading render :) ) has 3 batteries in it now... is this a change that I missed? any news about that?

Jason

Jim,
i won’t repeat what I said, but if your asking what is the point of it….
I’m asking what is the upgrade path from an Epic S35 to an Epic FF35 which is where most high (and low, I guess) end users wanna be?

Presently it sounds (unless I missed something) I can go from the RedOne to Epic S35 for a good price (too fair if you ask me), but six months later when the Epic FF35 comes out with an additional 2/3 stops etc, I’m going to pay $35K+ for this. Is this correct?
D

Dude, sell your S35 brain on ebay or here and buy the FF35 brain. Quit being a cheap bastard!

ehehehehe U2 ehehehehehe

keep going.. keep posting.. keep asking.. we are all together at the same boat anyway..

Spike ball is another toy that will be used on those that try to burglarize Red!:angry2:

BTW... how badly will the 2/3" Scarlet blow cameras like the HVX200 and Sony EX1 out of the water??? Those companies are gonna get rolled up and smoked.

Yep... $3750 for a complete kit for fixed lens Scarlet. It's game over for the rest of the "prosumer" fixed lens crowd. I don't see Panasonic offering anything RAW next year, let alone at 3K... They still can't even put true 1920x1080 native resolution chips into any of their sub $10K cameras, unless I've missed something in the latest models.

Wait all you want. My bet is that if you can't make great images from a RED ONE... Monstro won't help you. With all due respect.

Jim

I've got no problem making a great image, partly thanks to you and the RED One Jim, but I'm still looking for the best tool for the job, and added DR is one of the major perks that makes a tool great in Cinematography.

You can just upgrade your red one to M-X and then send in your upgraded red one for a FF Epic - 17.5K

EPIC X. It's a done deal for me. And I still want the FF35 brain too... Jim may have just sold me another RED One because I can pay the $17.5K now for it and "shoot it for free" until that FF35 is ready.

...I'm really happy right now.

Jeff just saved me a few minutes by expressing my exact feelings.

And I'll take a 617 the minute it's ready ... or even a few months before it really is.

Nice move on the pricing Jim - ignore the noise.

Ok, this announcement is ok, but i want to know does anyone else think it'"s a rip off that the spiky ball only has 10 spikes of dynamic pain? And then we have to pay extra to get 12 spikes of dynamic pain when the munstero comes out??? Wtf jim

i am a cheap bastard.. but you all already know.. JJ included.. ehehehehehe

Hey, this is lame--no amphibious version?
No Underwater version?
What's the top speed on it?
it doesn't look like it will hold a matte box?
How many batteries can it hold? Is there a six wheel option?

So many changes even the RED marketing guys are clueless!!!
Bravo Jim!

Am I the only one that is a bit shocked here by the responses?

As part of a company that owns a RED ONE, I think we are unbelievably lucky to be part of this action.

If we owned a Sony camera, or even looked at some of the Apple Products we've just purchased, we wouldn't get a single penny back if we tried to trade in our older gear for new gear. So everyone who is complaining about the Epic-X, take a step back and think about that first. That is a HUGE step. And we should be all thankful that the people at RED care enough about us to want to keep us all from being obsolete.

Also, I couldn't complain one bit about our RED ONE compared to all the other digital cameras we've used. And I look at the Specs for the Epic X, and I think, wow, they just topped the best digital camera in the world.

The Epic-X is light years better spec wise then the ONE, yet i read some people saying it is a camera that 'nobody wants'. well guess what, I want one. And the Price is more then fair in my opinion.

And if you're not sold on the Epic-X but have a RED ONE, guess what, you're not married to getting the X, there's plenty of other things you can do, if you want more dynamic range ( I agree, who doesn't) then don't get the X, instead, take that $17,500 trade in (which is the only company i know of ever doing this) and get what you want, it's that simple.

It's not possible for RED to make YOUR camera that spec's out the way each individual wants it for their needs. Think about it. I doubt you wrote the company that built your last computer before buying it complaining about it. You looked at what they had to offer, decided what was best for you and what you could afford and pulled the trigger. This isn't any different except sadly for them (red), they've got an open forum for people who have nothing better to do with their time then complain about minute things that in the end, won't really stop them from making beautiful images, unless they believe it takes a camera to make beautiful images, then they're in for a world of surprises.

If you loved the RED ONE, read the specs, the X is even more to love, and if for some reason you don't love it, don't buy it. But please don't waste time bitching at Jim because a camera that hasn't been release and is subject to change anyway isn't what you want.

i hope that RED ROVER is going to MARS

or the moon, donated to NASA..

Yep. I was just going to mention that. That "RED ROVER" or whatever it is looks pretty cool... Might be a bit top heavy, but looks like a hell of a lot of fun. Put a roll cage on that bad boy and you have a winner.

The spikey ball thing... I think it needs a launcher of some sort, then it could be the ultimate insertion / spy camera. It could anchor itself to telephone poles, brick walls, or even other people that piss me off. I'd take a box of those. :)
